Arizona CCW
« on: June 15, 2021, 09:20:44 AM »
Can someone post a thread or info on the AZ CCW process?  On my desk top and tapatalk, the search function are not working. I tried searching from the main page and from inside the sub categories.  The search was working as of last night, but not now.

What process are you referring to?

The requirements are detailed on the AZ CCW web pages.

If this is a new permit, go to https://www.azdps.gov/sites/default/files/media/07202%20-%20CCW%20Permit%20Application%20-%20Fillable.pdf

If this is a renewal, go to https://www.azdps.gov/sites/default/files/media/07201%20-%20CCW%20Renewal%20Application%208-20.1pdf.pdf

Need to submit:
completed application
A copy of a document demonstrating competence with a firearm in accordance with Arizona Revised Statute (Hunters Ed card, NRA Course Affidavit, etc.)
Two completed fingerprint cards
$60.00 cashier’s check, money order, or certified check payable to AZ DPS

There are a few contingent requirements, like if you are a naturalized citizen.  In order to get a non-resident AZ CCW permit, you must be a US Citizen.

As for the process, if you already have the required training:

(1)  Get fingerprinted.

(2)  Fill out the application

(3)  Copy required documents & ID

(4)  Choose form of payment

(5)  Mail it all in and wait.

Do you know who people used for prints?  I remember a topic that HPD will not provide that service.

https://www.azleg.gov/viewdocument/?docName=http://www.azleg.gov/ars/13/03112.htm

Section N for acceptable "training"

So if your handgun safety class was taught by a  NRA instructor can be used.

Or even a CCW from another state that requires a class, so my Nevada 1 could also be used as proof of training. NV requires a 8 hour class for new CCW's and 4 hours for renewals.

FINGERPRINTS:

It's true HPD does not do any fingerprinting unless it's for their own use or another law enforcement or related agency.

I've seen Image City mentioned.  People are apparently referred to them by the FBI office downtown.  You should call/email for prices.  They are located at Restaurant Row, according to their website.

As a point of reference, Prime Sports did an AZ CCW drive and brought in a fingerprinter that charged $40 per person ($20 per fingerprint card).  Might have been Image City or not -- I have no idea.  Just tossing out that $20/card is/was apparently a reasonable rate for the service.

I went through Signing Hawaii (I believe it was on Poki St. in Makiki) and was quick and easy.

I believe they(the person taking the fingerprints) have to be a notary as well.  Maybe that is the case regardless, don't know for sure.  The one that did mine was a notary.

Vegas is booked, and the instructors affidavit is good for a year. Which means we can take the class and renew later if the RSVP system changes.  And due to COVID, the 4 hour renewal class has been extended for 1 year past your expiration date.  This way you don't have to take the 8 hour class instead.

We are still probably going to get the AZ one anyways.
