All out-of-state private sales of firearms require you use an FFL at the buyer's end.

Generally, for a person to lawfully transfer a firearm to an unlicensed person who resides out of state,
the firearm must be shipped to a federal firearms licensee (FFL) within the transferee’s state of residence.
The transferee may then receive the firearm from the FFL upon completion of an ATF Form 4473 and
a NICS background check.

I read your post again.  Were you asking if you need an FFL for in-state transfers?

The answer to that is in the same ATF linked article I posted.  Transfers/sales between residents of the same state are legal without going through an FFL.  Still have to go through your county police department for the required permits, background checks and registrations, but there's no requirement for an FFL to be involved.

There are certain situations where an FFL can be helpful, such as selling to someone on a different island or transferring firearms to an heir of an estate.  But for normal private sales, person-to-person is fine.

big help thanks man. of course id rather sell local, but i think theres a way bigger audience on gunbroker as ive sold 20-30 items on there already. when im ready, ill probably list them here too. big thanks
