The state of ammo supplies?
« on: July 16, 2021, 10:48:47 AM »
I haven't visited gun store for many months due to being busy with other things and am in need of 22 LR.  The last time I checked, supplies of 22 LR and other ammo were...well non-existant.  Is that still the case or do the local stores have it in stock?

It's hit or miss. So you don't waste your time driving around, I would call first.

Good advice. I can't tell you how many times I've wasted time and resources going to a place to see if they have something.

HGS just reopened and had a few options, Remington Thunderbolts, CCI stingers, and Winchester bulk boxes, if I remember correctly.

Uncle Joe of Windward Gun Shop had .22LR and 9mm ammo on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021. His prices seem to be reasonable. Henry was in the store on that day. Probably the best day to shop since many customers visit the store, and you can pick their brains at the same time. Those of you who want to learn reloading, and need critical supplies should shop here first.

Standard Plus is one of the .22LR brands Joe is carrying. Ballistic characteristics are on this page:

Last time I was at YG (1st week of Sept. 2021) they had no bulk packs of .22LR and no CCI Mini Mags.  They had CCI on the shelf but they were mostly shorts and standard velocity.

They had Remington green and white box 115 gr. 9mm range ammo limit 5 boxes.  They also had a plain white box 9mm 115 gr. range ammo but I forgot what brand.

They had no SD 9mm ammo and the sign said limit 1 box.

Maggie claims that the ammo shortage is due to manufacturers concentrating production on NATO-spec cartridges.

Anyhow, Security Equipment Corp phoned to tell me they have 9mm back in stock. This morning.

Not sure that falls under "claims" as much as "discusses a rumor."   :geekdanc:

Ordered some Hornady ELDs for my 6.5 project.  Maybe over a week ago.  Not in any rush though.  On their website, they state something like a 5-7 day lag on shipping.  Got an email this morning that COVID hit their shop hard and that they are now getting over it.  That they reached out to follow up impressed me with their CS.

I get the impression she enjoys being in front of a camera.

And the center of attention.

She knows her guns for the most part, and it appears she's not reading from a script.  I applaud her for being able to do a better job speaking in front of a camera and interviewer than US Resident Biden has demonstrated!

Also, she's the person being questioned/interviewed, so she literally IS the center of attention!   :geekdanc: :D :shaka:

I'm sure she's a great person.  Definitely very knowledgeable and well spoken.  In a way she reminds me of the woman who works at YG.  I knew her name but for some reason it escapes me now.  (old age, lol!)

Good to know.  I hope they call me too.  I did inquire a while back and the lady on the phone asked me if I wanted to be on the notification list.  Of course I said yes.

Do they call people in order of where you stand on the list?

Yup.  There are times when I forgot that I even requested to be on the list, and then get a call many months later.  I think only a few times I didn't go down and pick up what came in.  Even in some cases I was already able to get what I had signed up for.

If you don't pick up, they'll do down the list.  At least what I've been told.  That happens many times where I'll see ammo on the floor, lots of it, and they say they're still working their way down the list.

Thanks!  I'm pretty sure I'm quite down the list.  I inquired about a week and a half ago.

I did.  :shaka:

I ordered a case of 223.  Also inquired about 9mm.  But looks like it will be offered on a future pallet.  They'll get back to me on the 9mm.

Anyone looking for 9mm Speer Gold Dot.  I went to Security Equipment the other week and put my name on the list for 9mm hollow point.  They called this week. They got 9mm Speer Gold Dot for $40/box of 50rds.  They called me 1 1/2 months ago but was looking for FMJ.  Price was the same $40/bx of 50 rds for Speer...they had a bunch so maybe they couldn't sell it all.  Could have bought 2 cases (500 rds/case).  Anyway, if anyone needs the 9mm hollow points it might be worth calling them or getting your name on the list.
