Knew it was too good to be true!
I don't remember getting that much in a child tax credit though. $500 X12 = $6,000 and you are saying that this equals just half of the old child tax credit? I gotta check my taxes again but I didn't think I got $12,000 for 2 kids. Plus if you didn't have income, the government didn't just send out a check for $12,000 right? In this case they are sending money out, not just taxing you less. Or have I mistaken that part of the child tax credit? (I really hate how complicated our tax system is.
Regardless, I had ordered the guns before I knew a check was coming. But if it makes the far left's heads explode I will still tell them it is that.
Last year, the child credit provided a
maximum $2,000 benefit per child. Biden's recovery plan increases that credit to a maximum $3,600 per child. So, nearly double what you could have gotten back per child last tax year
if you qualified for the max.
It's NOT 12 X $500. it's 6 X $500 (months left this calendar year). This year, your
MAXIMUM total credit is 2 X $3,600 = $7,200. The maximum advance is half that: $3,600 / 6 = $600/month.
You said you are getting $500/month, so you must not qualify for the maximum credit amount. You're getting 6 X $500 = $3,000 for this year's advance, or $6,000 total annually for two kids.
Assuming I got that right, you probably got around $1,600 per kid last year, or $3,200 combined, since you appear to not qualify for the maximum credit.
Biden has proposed extending the advance child credit payment program for 5 more years.
