I love Krispy Kreme. When just made it melts in your mouth. I can eat 739,456 of these in one sitting.
Growing up near where KK got its start, I was unaware there were any donuts other than KK.
Every town I lived in had a KK bakery nearby, and there was one within walking distance near my dorm in college.

They were all open 24 hrs, so when you're pulling an all-nighter to study or work on a computer project (mainframe terminals were tied up all day and evening), there was always at least one place open for coffee and donuts.
Of course, every market and gas station sold them, guaranteed to not be more than a day old. And KK was "the" fundraiser for most groups. I sold them for Boy Scouts, church youth group and HS Band more than once. Saturday and Sunday mornings were especially profitable, as people just waking up after drinking the previous night had no will power.

I went home for my 30th class reunion 9 years ago, and as I left the football stadium after the homecoming game, there was the football boosters selling KK. I bought 3 dozen, and they were only $5 each. I went online today to check, and in that same town, one dozen glazed costs the selling organization $6.75 now, and the recommended price for "donors' is $13.50. That's inflation for you!
Still worth it! I normally bring a couple dozen home from Vegas, San Diego, or wherever. Once, my flight was delayed. I missed my connection to Honolulu and had to spend the night in LA. Needless to say, not all 2 dozen made it home -- sitting in the airport at 10AM, Starbuck's in hand, waiting to find out if I can get a seat on the 12:15. Nom nom nom...
