I'd just finished watching that before seeing this post.  His example of police arresting the 911 caller who asked for police assistance was herself arrested.

If they want to encourage the Defund movement, this is one way to get even people from the Right onboard.

Failure to notify police you have a LEGALLY LICENSED FIREARM on you (in her purse) should not be a criminal offense.  Yet, she received a summons and was charged with exactly that.

If the lady in the story had LIED, I don't think anything would have happened to her unless the Cop had reason to suspect she was armed.  She was punished for telling the truth.  Neither having the gun nor telling the officer she had it had any affect on the officers' safety, yet she was arrested.

This not only underscores why "duty to inform" laws are just landmines for law abiding gun owners, it also highlights how gun laws need to be made more uniform across states.  Imagine driving across 5 states on vacation, moving residences, etc,. and having to learn and remember the laws for all 5 states involving:

- CCW Permit reciprocity
- Places concealed guns are prohibited
- Duty to inform Law Enforcement if armed
- Where in a car you can store your loaded firearm.  Some require you hide it in a console/glove box, while others PROHIBIT that -- must be in plain sight.
- Whether a Concealed Carry Permit includes other weapons (Tasers, pepper spray, knives) or ONLY firearms.
- Whether Open carry is allowed with or without a concealed carry permit.  Some require concealment if you have the permit while open carry is allowed if no permit -- etc.
- Whether mags over 10 rds are illegal
- Whether businesses posting "No Firearms Allowed" signs carry the force of law, or are only store policy.

I'm not one to push for federal laws where states clearly have the right to make their own, but when the gauntlet of laws for firearms turns into nothing but a bunch of opportunities for the states to arrest the otherwise law abiding gun owner, it makes sense to create a law to force standards across all states.  I'm not saying the feds need to write all the rules, just that the states need to all have the same fundamental set of laws.

Clearly, national reciprocity is a good start.  It would be just like driver's licenses and traffic laws.  If you have a permit from any state, it's valid in all other states.

Standardizing laws makes life easier on citizens and law enforcement when people travel from state to state.  I see nothing wrong with mandating at the federal level that states follow the same model for firearms.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
