There were some threads couple years ago, but wanted to know if any of those information changed.  What do you folks use for hearing protection.  Looking into getting one, looking for people's experience with what they used.  Thank you.

The headband and ear pads were starting to crumble, as do most earphones in Hawaii.  The thinner design makes it good for rifle use, where thick earmuffs can hit the rifle stock.  It has excellent noise reduction, including electronics that allow you to hear conversations and range commands then blocking gunshots when detected.

I have some in-the-ear types, too, that work well, but the earmuffs give me the best protection. 

I've considered the in-the-ear electronic types, but they are a bit pricey.

Over the ear also has the advantage that lets you loan them to someone else.  The in-the-ear types are often formed to fit.  Earmuffs are pretty much one size fits all.

I gave my son-in-law a pair of these for his first time at the range.  He seemed to like them, thought they were effective & comfortable, and preferred them after trying an earmuff set.

My wife has 2 noise canceling. But theyre both purple. So i dont use them.

Got both the Walker Razor and Howard leight impact sport electronic ear protection.  Also got the Decibullz percussive ear plugs.  I added the gel ear pads to my electronic earmuffs because for longer shooting days it’s was more comfortable.  At the end, I use both the  foam earplugs and the electronic muffs over.

One of my friends lost most of his hearing from exposure to loud sounds.  Better to be safe…especially when shooting my rifle.

Yeah, I'm one of those guys....   Hard headed in my younger days.....thought I was invincible.

On a related tangent, I saw a question in the Amazon listing for the Surefire EP7 earplugs that made me think this guy might be related to OG.

His question was, "What's the nrr when the caps are open? i'm looking for something i can wear for home defense. i want protection but also need to hear my attacker"

If that's his requirement, then he should be looking at electronic earphones/earplugs that allow ambient sounds to be heard while automatically protecting against very loud noises like a gunshot.

I would think if he's searching for such a product to meet his needs, he would have already investigated electronic ear protection.

I use the $0.50 cent disposable ones. They work well for me. No giant ear muff hitting my stock. No headache feeling cause my head wasnt being crushed. Lol

Once i used iphone ear phones cause i forgot my hearing protection but i wasnt gonna drive 10 miles back home then 10 miles back to kokohead then another 10 miles back home when done for the day.

Worked pretty well when i blasted my music on. Without music, lets say i lost my hearing for about a week in my right ear lol.

I paid $41 in 2016 for the green Impact Sport.  Looking at them just now on Amazon, they are $46.01-- that's a $3.94 discount over what I paid 2 weeks ago.   

For what you get, anything in the $40-$50 range is more than reasonable.

I used my wifes purple noise cancelling Impact this weeekend. Wore the damn thing backwards at first (mic was facing to the rear). It came in super handy, I was able to hear the instructions given for the skill builder.  Am I going to buy 1 for myself?  No, because the wife upgraded and stopped using the purple one.
