Old cell phones?
« on: September 20, 2021, 07:30:15 PM »
I got 8 old phones but I think they are pretty worthless.
So it got me to thinking....

How many phones does it take to stop a round of 45 ACP  ball ammo?
What's your guess?

What, Me Worry?

The type of case would matter, as would a standard vs. extended battery.

Since all that's really left is plastic, glass, PCB circuit boards and maybe a little metal on some of the skins, I'd expect the .45 to go through all 8 -- IF the phones are held securely in a rack of some kind.

Old cell phones? I think those phones are newer than the one I still use. I have to get a new phone by February cause AT&T won't support my current one.

Start a thread on "experiences when upgrading your cell phone & plan."

There are plans that save a lot of money, but not always easy to find and compare.

I was going to tape them together to keep the plastic from flying all over my house.
I would guess 5 phone penetration.

Value-wise, I just got an S21 5G for my daughter and the sales guy said that her old S8 phone is only worth about 10 bucks.
This stack has phones about 20 years old or older.

Do we still have 3g here? If so those things are valuable as long as you can find replacement batteries.

Ditching smartphones is starting to trend

A lot of new feature phones have google baked in so that they can still track you

So 4 1/2.

Saw some alchemy vids on YT and the precious metals in components.  But you would need a palate full of phones to be worth something.

I would keep any phone that had a camera, and those that come with an app that can surf the internet through your wireless wi-fi router. Waste not, want not. Modern PC's and laptops have a tendency to die due to crappy capacitors on DC rails. Once those devices go, your only route to the outside internet world is your cellphone,  with or without a plan. I'm going to attach one of my old cellphones with a camera to optics mounted on a tripod. This way, if the phone falls off, I won't be wrecking my new (and ridiculously expensive) iPhone.

How far away will the phones be?  If point blank, all 8.

I just want to add that for me, any distance farther than that and I would have to change the game to how many shots it would take to just hit the phones, lol!
