That makes sense.  Last I read on here, HPD said they can't tell you to bring your firearms into the police station to register.  It's your choice if you want to follow existing procedures (bring them) or wait until they figure out the new procedures.

They erased the directive to "bring all firearms to the Main Police Station," and left the part about "unloaded...in a proper gun case" for those who choose to register now.

Hawaii law basically says you only need a permit to conceal carry in public outside of your place of residence or work.  Open carry is currently prohibited except for law enforcement officers according the the place to keep laws.  However what no one has discussed here is that the use of force laws limit severely when and how you would ever be legally justified in using deadly force.  Those laws are detailed in chapter 703 of the Hawaii Revised Statutes and are definitely worth a read.

Not really relevant here, because this thread deals with the legality of the mere act of possessing a firearm on your person while at home.  You don't have to use it, just have it.

HRS 703 has more to do with the legality of protecting yourself, others or your property, and to what level can force be applied -- up to and including lethal force.

I see the connection if you want to explore all aspects of defensive firearms, but it's a bit off topic based on the OP.

I would assume you would want to carry a gun for the express purpose of having it available to use for self defense rather than just a fashion accessory. The laws that dictate when it would be legal to use go hand in hand with the laws governing when and where you may carry.  I don’t think it’s off topic at all.

That's fine.  As I said, it's related, but not directly part of the specific topic:  Carry License for Home.

Your comments are more general as they relate to use of a firearm, but not exclusive to a firearm you are carrying on your person.  The HRS statute you cited applies whether you are licensed to carry in public, or if you keep it in your gun safe or night stand at home, or in your desk drawer at your business.

I'm not going to argue.  Just be aware there are already other threads on here that covered what you wanted to add already.  No sense in reinventing the wheel.

Dogs are more up keep than guns.  Also unlike guns, dogs can attack on their own volition.  I never seen a gun jump out of a holster and start shooting people.
