Will there be health workers at each neighborhood entrance taking temperatures and checking adults' vax passports?   :shake:

Of all the events the government is focused on when setting COVID rules, this has got to be the least important.

No one goes trick or treating where I live. Houses too far apart, too dark, everybody has gates and most houses are 100 ft or more from the gate.  Reward vs time factor not worth it. This is in Puna.

The neighborhood I grew up in was sketchy, to put it politely.  So, my mom drove us around to streets where she knew the residents.  We hit a few houses, waited for my mom by the car as she talked to her friends, then drove to another street.

Not the most efficient method of Trick'or'Treating, but we did great with the candy haul, and my mom had peace of mind that she'd at least tried to keep us safe.

If it's like last year, this year, will be a "one bag" Halloween at my house .... just one bag of Halloween candy from Costco should be plenty.  There have been 2 and 3 bag Halloweens, but it seems people are now going to the little DIY carnivals set up in a few neighborhoods and letting that be enough.

When I first moved into our neighborhood 26 years ago we were all young and had young kids so Halloweens were like 10 bags or more type of Halloweens.

Now the kids of the neighborhood are all grown up and moved away, some still remain and have kids of their own.  But now the Halloweens are a crapshoot, hard to predict if there will be any trick or treaters or maybe none at all.  We have to factor if the holiday falls on a week night or week end then figure how many bags of candy to buy "just in case....".

Last year because of the lockdowns it was a no brainer.  But prior to that my wife and I would just go out with our in-laws to dinner and a movie and turn off the porch light.

Not sure what we're gonna do this year.  My in-laws choose not to be vaxed so we won't be going out and I guess maybe I'll buy a couple of bags of M&M's and Snickers since I like to eat those candies anyway and it won't be wasted but it will mess up my blood sugar and A1c.
