William Shatner -- The Man, the Myth, the Legend!
« on: October 13, 2021, 09:09:38 PM »
William Shatner went into space for the first time in his life today (for real, that is), making him the oldest human being to do so.

His ticket price was $250,000.

Quote
William Shatner, the 90-year-old veteran of countless imaginary space voyages playing
Star Trek's Captain Kirk, blasted off for real Wednesday, becoming the oldest person to
reach the final frontier in a PR bonanza for Jeff Bezos and his rocket company Blue Origin.

Over the course of 10 minutes and 17 seconds, Shatner and three crewmates took off atop
a hydrogen-fueled rocket, climbed to edge of space 65.8 miles up and enjoyed three to four
minutes of weightlessness, along with spectacular views of Earth, before plunging back to
a gentle parachute-assisted touchdown.

Fun Halloween Fact:

The production budget for the original Halloween movie was only about $300K.  One cost-saving measure was to use an off-the-shelf mask for Michael Myers when he returned to Haddonfield after 15 years in the asylum.   Of the 3 candidate masks, they chose a William Shatner/Captain Kirk mask.  They removed the side burns, brushed back the hair, and made some changes to the eyes and skin color.

Half of my family is Mormon and the other half is Jewish. Almost everyone is very religious. I seem to be the only heathen in my family.

There is a big joke that has been going around in memes and folklore about the Jews in Israel having a laser in space. This Jewish space laser was even blamed for starting the CA wildfires a couple of years ago. So with Shatner being Jewish himself, the jokes were going around yesterday about him bringing another laser up into space with him. And another claiming he was going to shine it down to the earth so the world’s cats could all chase it around.

Wow.  For a fellow who's 90 years old he looks way younger than his years!

I remember when I watched the original movie I told myself that the mask reminds me of William Shatner.  I never openly said anything about it and chuckled to myself when it was revealed that it actually was so.

Too bad he doesn't get any royalties for the usage of the mask but if Mr. Shatner can dole out $250,000 for an 11 minute joyride into space I don't think he really cares about that.

The movie Halloween is a franchise success!  Fun to watch Jamie Lee Curtis then and now.  And Donald Pleasance (RIP) character just adds to the evil spookiness of the story of Michael Myers.

I believe the toupee has something to do with that.

According to most things I've found, he started wearing wigs and hair pieces as early as 9 years old, as he was already showing signs of thinning hair and premature balding.  He has never appeared in photos, film or on TV without fake hair since 1957 or 1958.  He is rumored to have stolen many toupees from the Star Trek set, because he wanted the same appearance in public as the fans were used to seeing on TV.

He's an equestrian, and rides as much as his schedule allows.  He also does a ton of charity events, including one for equestrian causes annually.
