Registration Question
« on: October 18, 2021, 05:16:21 PM »
Howdy all,

Just curious…

I’d rather register my guns online as it’s more convenient and wouldn’t have to drive 45 minutes to HPD, but does anyone know if I can register in person without my LG permit in hand?

FFL lost it and is looking for it and would rather register soon than later 😭😭😭

Some will say it shouldn't be necessary since HPD can look it up, but I have never seen anyone without their LG permit allowed to register. They were told to go get it. If they had an appointment they were allowed to return the same day and not have to make and new appointment. Why did the FFL have your LG permit long enough to lose it?

I picked up a gun and the FFL forgot to give me back my permit because they physically had it to check my info to my license. Got stupid busy and have to leave and they forgot to give it back and I forgot to make sure I had it   :-X

When you go to HPD tomorrow, ask them how many long guns you've registered these last few weeks.

You might be surprised!   :shake:

I forgot my permit at home when I tried to register my pistol.  They told me to come back with it.  Best thing to do is tell the gun store they have to find it.  Or else call the police station to ask if you can register with out it.

Not sure why they need it, they have a copy at the station.  Let me know what happens, I can discuss it when I meet with the Maj there.

So far I was told they’re going to try to find it (been about 2-3 days so far), and if they can’t then they’d have to reach out to notify HPD and help me get a new one. So, emailed today and said they’d let me know when they find it. Would appreciate getting some info about this kind of thing when you speak to them

Does anyone know if we need/ can to register a lower by itself or if we need to complete the rifle before we can register?

can register the lower by itself.  i think its better you do it this way, only the lower.  they will tell you to bring it back when you complete the build, but there's no need to

Since the receiver/frame is considered legally to be the "firearm,"  you'll need to register it.  When the 5 day limit mattered, you likely didn't have all the parts or time to complete the build before registering.  Therefore, just the receiver.

HPD will register it as "Receiver Only."  If you ever do finish the build, there's no legal requirement to re-register it.  However, you can if you want.

The entire registration system is a crock, so do as little as needed to remain compliant with THE LAW, and ignore anything the Cops at the window tell you if they can't produce the reference in the statute to support what they say.

Back when I went to re-apply for a long gun permit after my previous one expired, HPD gave me a major hard time. They said if I could not find my expired long gun permit to bring in to apply for the new one; I would have to make a police report for the “lost/stolen government form/document” and that it would be a big deal if I didn’t bring the expired permit in.

Seeing as this was a current permit used during the transfer of a firearm, I would think they would be even more militant about it being missing, than my expired permit missing.

I ended up finding my permit the next day and brought it down when I re-applied. So it wasn’t a big issue in the long run. But they were making a big deal out of a missing expired permit for me. This was about 2-3 years ago.
