Kiss his ass?

There are a lot of private ranges on Oahu.
Getting invited is half the fun!

But I know the EPA will nag this guy if he doesn't reclaim the lead
The noise level may also shut them down.

I find it interesting that they print this article and didnt get a interview or statement from hpd or state enforcement regarding the legality of the issue. Maybe because its legal and not as much of a big deal as they trying to make it out to be, and heaven forbid more people start doing that in their own back yards.

When I took hunters safety class the DLNR guys told us about how to construct a private shooting range on your property. On the big Island this is not considered to be abnormal. Also you can ask the police to come down to your private range to make sure that it is safe to use and follows regulations( ie I distance from roads structures houses so on so forth and possible noise complaints). And as long as you're not charging admission and it's for your own private use. it's not illegal!  The police have to go and check it out anytime they have a complaint about shooting. This lady sounds overly concerned and this is really a non-story.

btw I am from the big Island.

The reason is that this biased news paper wants to stir the public into calling for a law to make it illegal.  "But no one has been arrested or cited over the 10 years.."  Statements like this...  Why would anyone be arrested, it is perfectly legal.  And the title, "Private shooting range stirs worry"  Who is worried?  Just the one ignorant person?  I wonder how close the neighbors are to the gun fire?  If not that close, and noise levels are acceptable, I'd tell em to mind their own business.  Lol.

I'm just jealous that I don't have property big enough to do this.
Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

Guys, I've said it before, and I'll keep saying it.  You are giving "the media" way too much credit for having an agenda.  The only agenda media outlets have is sales.  They're not gunning for guns anymore than they're gunning for abortion clinics.  All they want is to sensationalize anything that has a possibility of creating drama, thereby increasing readership, thereby increasing ad revenues.

Here are two example headlines:
Weather reports show clear skies ahead
Experts worry that dangerous storms may be on the horizon

And here's the story:
Quote
Expect sunny and clear skies for the next seven days.  Daily highs should be in the mid-eighties, and nighttime lows in the upper sixties.  There is a small chance of morning precipitation early in the week growing to a moderate chance of showers by the weekend.
The difference between theory and reality is that, in theory, there is no difference between theory and reality.

She should straight go over and have her kids learn about the safety and importance of firearms... AAAHHHH man! This sucks,

when will people understand that theres only 2 ways to stop an armed "JOKER" type from shooting everyone.. ::)

1) Bring him an unmarked bag of a billion, trillion, cagillion dollars... a helicopter, Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, jet ski, Bazooka, M16, AR15, AK47, AK74, 10/22, 10/45, 9mm, 10mm, 40mm, 1million mm....etc

or

2) Pull a trigger on a contraption that sends a projectile out of a really strong hammer forged pipe REALLY REALLY FAST....

More "RESIDENTIAL" ranges should and probably will open due to the stupid rulez, regs and time slots that Kokohead provides... ;)
