Interesting.   By any chance were you using cheap under powered ammo and hadn’t cleaned it in a long time?

My guess:  limp-wristing.

There is a short list of what might cause a 1911 to malfunction.  Most are solvable.

Colt 1911s have a tighter tolerance than many other brands.  Until you break it in, you're going to have the potential for parts not "meshing" together.

500 rds is the recommended minimum from most 1911 makers to break it in.  YMMV.

You may also have a better experience with a different brand or model magazine than with others.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

It was cleaned and ammo was indeed the cheapest I could find.  Not sure on its "power".  As for flapp and the limp wristed.  I purposely limp wristed my glock and it worked fine.

another common reason for 1911's malfunctioning is :  you got a cheapo 1911.  can't go cheap on a 1911.  you don't have to get a Wilson Combat or Nighthawk Custom, but get a good respected brand name that's been building them for a while
just like polymer pistols.  get a hi point, and expect to get what you paid for
