Where do you guys buy your tumbling media locally?  Is there someone that we can buy media in bulk?

If you do a search I think there was a topic about this, or could just be one that got off topic and we started talking about that.

Anywho what kind of media you looking for? I know one place that was mentioned was sandman in mapunapuna. Buy in bulk or by the tons if you like.

That's where I bought mine. They carry walnut, corncub in all kinds of sizes. You buy in bulk. I think I bought mine at $30 + tax for a 30 pound bag of corncob. You can pick the size of the media. When I told them how much gun stores were charging they were surprised. I had so much I gave it away. They were very helpful. http://msi.site.aplus.net/home.html
Or you can go the stainless steel pins route. More steps but brass is cleaner, primer pockets too! and less toxic material in the air.

wet tumbled on the left, dry media on the right and the SS pins last way longer than dry media

inside clean too!

Really old thread but I'd figure I'd add my 2 cents.

Crushed Walnut and corncob can be found at any pet supply store. They are sold in the reptile or bird bedding/litter section and tend to be pretty cheap.

Hope to find some walnut media at the gunshow this weekend.
Could not find the crushed english walnut used for reptile bedding at Petco although the website lists it.

Try check kapolei petco. We used to throw away bags of that.  If I knew they were this useful I would have scooped them up!!!

Walnut is a little more abrasive and cleans dirty brass quicker then corn cob, corn cob will shine the brass better. I mix both together seems to work well for the first cleaning and will use corn cob with some polish to take off the case lube and give it that nice shine after.

Isn't wet cleaning better than dry?  Tried using lemon juice and it came out good enough. What's the benefits of dry verse wet? I read that wet cleans better...

Using a thumler tumbler with stainless steel pins cleans the best.  It is a bit more work though as you will need to rinse off the soap and completely dry the brass.  And, the primer pockets will be completely clean, but you will need to decap the brass first . . .

I already decap my brass before I soak them.   :shaka:
