Are you tired of "statements"
« on: November 09, 2021, 06:35:01 PM »
security is non existent at the airport
https://www.khon2.com/local-news/travelers-raise-security-concerns-at-daniel-k-inouye-airport-garage/

No answers. No solutions. Just a statement with nothing to add.  :grrr:

State Sen. Chris Lee who heads the Senate Transportation Committee also sent a statement saying, “Any incidents on state property must be taken seriously, and if there is equipment that has to be replaced to ensure security and protection of the public, that absolutely has be taken care of immediately.”

Lee is very anti 2a and sits on a committee that decides if bills move on.

So often the politician statements are stupid but it is kind of damned if you do damned if you don't. People seem to expect a statement and make up inferences if a statement isn't provided.

No. As the manager or leader of a department responsible for said services I expect an answer or solution. What are YOU Mr. Lee going to do? Maybe if we have merit based salaries you'd get off your high horse and DO SOMETHING MEANINGFUL.
I pay for those services, just as much as I go to McDs and order a BigMac. I want my burger.

Yep.  They used to charge $15 a day and now it's $18 a day.  But some cameras broke.  So what you guys did with the money?  Pay yourselves?

Oh..... ::)

I am tired of our Reps/Sens flapping their lips and no action.

Particularly want Crazie Mazie to shut her piehole. . .

People like this only take action when against the 2a. No laws for repeat criminals, budget for another prison, etc...

Sometimes there are no easy answers, its not necessarily a sign of incompetence, corruption, or laziness. What do you think is the answer? This is not an insult, just saying, it is easy to demand solutions but it is harder to come up with solutions. I don't really like empty feel good statements either but I understand why they make them, they feel like they have to say something.

They could add more cameras and more security but from what I hear, it is hard to catch these guys. They park a car next to the victim's car, crawl under and cut the catalytic converter in 30 seconds and drive away. Even if there is a camera in the area it has to be at a good angle to see the guy go down between the cars.

I don't think anyone expects a single person or government agency to have all the answers.  What I'd like to see is some kind of actual problem solving skills instead of political horse trading.

You're supposed to define the problem, make a list of potential solutions, analyze the costs, benefits and risks of each solution, and MAKE A DECISION.  If the decision runs into unforeseen problems, fine.  Instead of playing the blame game and running political ads on what a failure that person has been, pick the #2 solution and see if it works.  If not, try #3.

Officials instead lay out a bunch of requests for money, they look at the money available, and they fund the things that got the most press, public attention, or special interest support.  There's no real attempt to solve anything.  If they had been doing that, so many problems would no longer exist.

Hard to argue they are trying their best when it's so obvious their best never seems to fix a damned thing.

How much and how long did the H-3 take to open?  Where's the Rail, and how much over budget and late is it now?  H-1 traffic still sucks (pandemic notwithstanding).  Homeless issues are not getting better,  Our water mains keep failing.  Pick a problem, and it's probably been a problem for decades.

Q - How long does it take a politician to fix a problem?

A - Why fix it?  It has been a winning campaign issue since Hawaii became a state!

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

I would be completely fine with an elected official coming out and saying "These criminals get in and out very fast and it is hard to catch them. We don't know how to address the issue yet but we will work on it". At least that would be honest without a bunch of empty promises. If the answer was adding more security cameras that would require more money though and that may go over their budget which would mean they would have to ask for more.

Had another thought, I wonder if such a statement is made to try and scare away criminals. Make them think the security is better so they don't come around? Not sure if that was part of his calculation though, just a thought.

You want me to pay for my burger and have me cook it?

A multi-pronged plan to increase security and instill public confidence in utilizing a State facility with the long term goal of promoting commerce and travel through the Daniel K. Inouye Airport Facility
- increase security patrols with uniformed and private security
- replace and repair cameras if feasible
- identify underutilized resources and divert them to decrease and deter crime in the airport
- develop, staff and exercise a ready response team to respond to real time criminal activity
Work with the Legislature to increase penalites for crimes in and around a State Airport in order to deter criminal activity and afford safe and secure passage for all travelers through the Daniel K. Inouye Airport Facility.

Took less than five minutes to brainstorm. Mr. Lee could've stated that he will propose this. Send this to his staff and to the appropriate front line personnel for feedback on feasibility. But he didn't.

Of course the bigger issue is not mentioned. Keep career criminals behind bars and prosecute them.  I'll bet all those breaking into cars at the airport, have priors.

But yet Lee has no problem voting to ban standard capacity rifle mags, OK to regulate electric guns up the ying yang, ban P80's, etc...

IIRC he was even standing with the heads of EMT and Ballard at the PC in front the capitol after the Diamond Head shooting.

That should have been his response. How do we stop this problem? Keep criminals locked up longer. Start using the habitual property crime law to its full effect.
