What to Do in Case of a Mass Shooting
« on: November 10, 2021, 02:14:47 AM »

This mock set-up is inside a church.

My advice:

1. Have a friend with you. A friend request to Kyle Rittenhouse might work.
2. Try to sit in the back row of the church, near an aisle closest to the exit door.
3. Always carry a bodycam with you, as video evidence is crucial in case you need to whip out your concealed carry weapon.
4. Last, but not least, Pray.

My advice:

Pray online or don't go to church,  lessens the chance of that scenario.
Avoid crowded areas and easy targets with limited escape plans
Cameras are your friend.
Don't pray, think of how to escape or fight back.  A god probably can't save you.

The company that I work at actually had a gent from the FBI come in to present an active shooter class a couple of weeks ago.
The basic idea was to run. hide and/or fight.

What, Me Worry?

Imagine a work place where workers can be armed and can shoot back.  I'll bet since 96% of active shootings happen in gun free zones, active shootings will be reduced.

Anyone who says "Prayer doesn't work" has never been a parent or doesn't remember their own childhood.

Sometimes the answer is "yes", but quite often the answer is "no."  Just because you didn't get the answer you hoped for 100% of the time doesn't mean your requests were never heard.

Let's say you make a prayer request 10 times.  Of those 10 times, 2 work out as you wanted, and 8 do not.  How are you going to PROVE prayer was not the reason for a positive outcome those 2 times?  The obvious answer is, you can't prove if prayer works or not.  I challenge anyone who doubts prayer to show ANY example where science (medicine, engineering, nuclear energy, etc) results in guaranteed positive outcomes every single time.

What has been proven is that the power of positive thought, especially in medical treatments like cancer and addiction, has a significant impact on the patient.  If they believe the treatment will work, it has a positive effect versus believing they will never get well. If they believe their prayers are being heard, that in and of itself creates the kind of hope that enhances treatment and may be the determining factor in whether or not it's successful.

Even if prayers don't result in a miracle and the patient is certain to die soon, at least their passing may be more peaceful if they believe their end is part of God's plan, and that their soul is prepared for what is next.

I fail to see the pragmatic rationale for trying to sh!t on people's religious beliefs when i doesn't affect anyone else.

They should stop trying to shove their secular beliefs down everyone's throats.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.

What is a psychopath?
https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/decoding-madness/202110/7-signs-psychopathic-personality

3. Deceitfulness
This trait is related to distorted self-esteem, an impaired ability to bond with other people, and a need to always be on top. To get there or perceive himself as such, the psychopath will lie, cheat, manipulate, corrode the truth and rationalize to the point that reality is so assaulted that it’s on life support.
4. Shallow Emotions
What can make this particular trait so jarring is that, as previously noted, the psychopath is superficially engaging and can seem expressively “present.” The depth of emotions is belied by a callous indifference.
5. Boredom and a Need for Stimulation
A propensity to experience boredom is related to a strong stimulation-seeking urge, together with an emotional shallowness. Without much of a true connection to other people and with a temperament that is always searching for thrills and excitement, the psychopath is quick to take chances and engage in risky behaviors.

Praying is up to you, same as "hoping" for something.  The use of it to protect yourself is foolish.  There is no magic.  If someone was trying to kill you, you praying isn't going to stop any bullets.  No "god" will come down and save you.  All the positive thought in the world won't help you.  You have to either fight or run.  Prayer is unproductive and frankly useless.  Unless you are using it to calm yourself as you hide or similar scenario.  What you should be doing is figuring out ways to stay alive.  Be proactive.

I am merely trying to add prospective on what I think would actually help you in a similar scenario.   Praying is not one of them and probably a hindrance.

In other scenarios, sure praying or positive thoughts might work.  But not in this.
