.450 Bushmaster
« on: November 14, 2021, 06:08:49 PM »
I've been tinkering with the idea of a big bore AR for a while.  always putting it on the back burner for various reasons: not practical, too expensive, no more ammo available
but recently had that thread about 458 SOCOM, and that reignited the fire for the big bore I was wanting.  so I did more research and decided on a .450 Bushmaster bc of price, availability. and I don't need super heavy projectiles, so .450 Bushmaster looked to me like the caliber to go with.  I just wanted a big bore AR I can shoot at the range or at 200 yards and less, with maybe the opportunity to hunt small to medium game at 100 yards, or 200 at most.
in case you are not familiar with the .450 Bushmaster, it is basically a Colt 45 projectile going about twice as fast out of a AR platform.
finally got all the pieces delivered.  I'm using one of my AR lowers, just swapping the buffer for a heavier h3 buffer and spring.  otherwise its a normal AR15 lower with a upper in .450 Bushmaster from Delta Team Tactical. they pretty much get parts from other manufacturers and assemble it, or you assemble yourself.  my upper is with a Aero Presicion XL upper and 16" barrel, Mlok foregrip.  looks well assembled, i like the foregrip and muzzle brake that's said to reduce felt recoil by 30% but we shall see.  all in all it looks like a  really good upper for the money. optic is a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8 LPVO.  I'll do a comparison with my Swampfox soon. but in case you don't know, Swampfox is very good for the money
I'll add more review when i actually shoot this beast.  but for now I got this pic   :shaka:  :shaka:

I love my 450 bushmaster.  Got an OG one  I think made by bushmaster.  Only issues I've had with it is the mags really don't like to keep the fat ammo. The poor feed lips.

what kind/brand of mags are those?
I have some duramag and ASC mags.  the ASC don't drop free

I'll start reloading with these projectiles: 300 grain XTP, 250 grain FTX.  powders:  AA#9, H110 :geekdanc:

Tested it out today. First off, 1 word to describe shooting the .450 Bushmaster is, "pain!". My shoulder is sore after shooting only 6 rounds.  :'(
I'll make a few adjustments and try again in a couple weeks.
Recoil is pretty stout. At least 2-3x more than a 308
450 Bushmaster is no joke
