before asking the govt for help
https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2021/11/17/who-will-pay-fix-rails-wheels-councilmembers-seek-answers-hart/

In an ongoing setback for the embattled Honolulu rail project, there are lingering issues with the wheels, which are too small for the width of the track.
Before the Honolulu City Council Tuesday, HART interim Executive Director Lori Kahikina said bigger wheels are what’s needed. She added that a third-party expert determined the narrow wheels could be replaced instead of reworking the entire track interface.
The company Hitachi will now be designing the new wheels, which are expected to arrive next August. They will then need a full year to install and test them.
One unanswered question: Who’s gonna pay for it?

They can't even figure out what size the wheels were supposed to be in the first place....WutDaPho!

I worked on the rail for a few years. It was and still is wrought with corruption and incompetent people from the top of the HART cartel all the way down. Everybody has their hand out and are getting their palms greased.

You younger guys (40 and under) should make long term bets on whether or not the new Aloha Stadium entertainment complex will be completed in 20 years like they are projecting.

20 years ?
How long did it take to get LA and Vegas to get their new stadiums which are X times bigger completed?
San Diego State ? Or is it Fresno State ?
Demo in 2023 ?
Hawaii is a cluster…

If it’s already decided the current is gone, blow it up or start dismantle next month.
Or as soon as the public bid thing allows you.

Traffic to the existing stadium is a pure nightmare for big events.  There has to be a much better location for a new stadium.  A different spot would allow the current one to be used until the new facility is ready.  Then, just open the gates to the old one and turn it into a metal recycling project for the homeless!

What's going on with Campbell Industrial Park?  There's no raceway there, so...

Maybe they can actually plan for adequate parking now and later instead of preventing expansion?  Maybe build it in line with the rail (what a concept!!).

Who plans these projects?  Politicians?

Another place for Aloha Stadium ?
Where?
Halawa is not ideal ( I don’t know where ideal would be on this Island, maybe it is ideal.) but at least it’s center.
Access from Windward, West and East.
How would you get to Ewa, Barber’s, Kapolei, wherever ?
Once the Stadium is on surface streets its over.
Flapp you pushing for the rail ? (That was a trolling comment. Hopefully he doesn’t go off the rail.)
( same way you could get to Halawa I guess from West at least…in 9 years….same year the stadium is half complete….)

Is the rail going to the current Aloha Stadium location?  The map says it is.  So, it just makes sense to plan for the rail in whatever location is used.  My opinion doesn't have to be biased for or against since it's already a given that the state is going to dump as much of our money down that hole of corruption as needed to make the right people wealthier.

I already mentioned Campbell Industrial Park.  H-1 is more than capable of handling the traffic if (1) the rail is included in the design, and (2) ample parking is available to handle the inflow so people aren't forced to sit on the shoulders before a game starts like they do in Aiea.  If H-1 is under capacity, they can improve secondary roads to handle overflow.

Lots more room there to expand than other places.  As for driving distance, more and more people are moving to Kapolei.  That was the plan all along.

Who made the mistake though? A mistake in planning by a government official or a mistake by a contactor who installed the rails? If a contract messed it up make them pay for it.
Unfortunately if the government employee screwed it up best you can do is fire them.

One of the problems I see is some of the mistakes are made by the consultants that HART hires and when they make a mistake the taxpayer pays for it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens again with this wheel issue.

Many errors are QA related.  The requirements, specs, and inspections should catch problems before or soon after approval by the program managers.

I saw way too many instances where shoddy requirements definitions caused poorly produced products.  Then the producer and buyer have to sometimes go to court or a mediator to see who eats the cost of correcting the problems.

More often than not, the tax payer eats it.

I have never been inside the Aloha Stadium even though I lived on Oahu from 1968 to 2014. I got many invites to attend UH games for free and even was offered really good tickets to the “sold out” Michael Jackson concert that a friend got directly from Tom Moffet. Turned them all down.

Some of those “consultant’s” resumes are pretty filled with political positions. Not so many with construction, contracting, etc. At least back when I was involved in rail project development. Don’t think it has changed much.

I have the perfect solution!
Build a wall, and strictly control ingress and egress to South Point on the Big Island.
then develop a Las Vegas there,
casinos, hotels, airport, stadiums, et al.
All run for the benefit of ALL citizens of Hawaii.
Isolated, controlled, Earth friendly, the perfect Democrat society.
