Taser 10 has been classified as a firearm by the ATF because it uses gunpowder to discharge probes. No price yet but a Taser rep said it will be significantly higher than the Taser 7. If it is classified as a firearm,  may as well carry a real gun.

More specifically, according to existing ATF rules:
Quote
27 CFR 178.11: MEANING OF TERMS
(Also 179.11)
A hand-held device designed to expel by means of an explosive two electrical contacts
(barbs) connected by two wires attached to a high voltage source in the device classified as a
firearm.
https://www.atf.gov/firearms/docs/ruling/1976-6-tasers-firearms/download

The non-firearmTasers use compressed gas to propel the barbs.  So, if the T10 is using gunpowder, it is using an explosive.

Imagine how that's going to play out when these devices cause death and the family sues someone for using a "firearm" when it was not justifiable self defense using lethal force.  The fact that the T10 is effective at twice the distance of regular models tells me it's generating much more force behind the barbs.  That has more potential to wound than merely incapacitate.

I predict some interesting court cases surrounding this new product.
