Naturally, security varies by store and location, but in Tennessee, it seems to be free-wheeling and undisciplined.
The above robbery took place in 2019, and the employees did not hesitate to chase down the thieves. The female owner points an unloaded (?) weapon at one of the suspects, and a male employee attempts to stop a getaway vehicle. Luckily, no one was injured. Apparently, a proactive citizen's arrest is "legal" in TN. This was the second time in a week (or so) that a robbery was staged.
In Honolulu, some of the LGS stores have locked doors, and only allow several people to enter the store at a time. The stores tend to know who their customers are, and probably size up potentially dangerous ones. The square footage of most stores is low, and honestly, feels claustrophobic. I am sure the owners have probably rehearsed what they can and cannot do in the event of a robbery. I would put on level IV ceramic body armor if a group of strangers wanted entry to the store.
