As a Prepper, what led to your belief that we will experience a SHTF event? (Read 2888 times)

This is a video which contains some signs, when linked together, provide a hint of what will happen soon.

The author addresses the concept of a "tipping point." Back when Lee Childs was still writing novels about (fictional character) Jack Reacher, Lee wrote one book with the title, Tripwire. If event A was followed by event D, the main antagonist would exit from his normal, safe hiding spot. The first tripwire (for me) was 9/11. The collapse of the twin Towers nearly killed a member of my family. It was time to get out of Dodge. Last month, a spooky guy who looked like Bob in Twin Peaks, showed up at my door.

This wiki page covers the story of Bob (do not read if you do not wish to be exposed to spoilers).

Natural disasters are only one component of a SHTF event. Dangerous people are far worse. This is why it is impossible to own too much ammo, or too many weapons. Stay safe, and don't be a victim.

What got me started was the most terrifying horror movie I've ever seen.

The premise:

The major force that's driving our (now exceedingly obvious) decline is resource depletion, but most people won't even consider it because it's too scary and they still hold on to the faith-based idea we can fix things with technology.

Stuff learned since then:

We will need 3 planets worth of resources by 2050 and the wealthy know this, which is why they are trying to get us all to inject microchips and eat bugs while they obsess over uploading their minds into cybernetic bodies that they can shoot off into outer space.

Of course those plans are just more techno-fixes that are doomed to fail and will make the disaster even worse by wasting our few remaining resources and turning us against each other.

I’m becoming clinically undepressed and thinking about beginning it all.

This caught me kinda off guard.

Had to think long and hard and found out that I was "prepping" before it was called "prepping" and before any thought or concept of SHTF probably existed.
I have to attribute my "prepping" mindset due to spending so much time with my beloved Grand Mother, God rest her soul.
She went through the depression so never took ANYTHING for granted.

Not her friends and neighbors, her faith and family, her garden or the simple plastic bag that bread came in.
(She usually baked our own bread but I think she would buy a loaf just for the bag. )

e.g.   When the bread bag was empty, it was washed and hung on a hanger with clothespins to dry by the heater vent  and then used to carry my lunch in.
After my lunch, lunch's waste like paper from sandwich wrap, aluminum foil that covered my frozen soda to keep it cold till lunch, the soda can, paper napkin and any wrapper from amenity's all came home in the bread bag.
Upon returning home, can was crushed and separated along with AL foil, paper products placed in burn barrel and bread  bag again washed and hung on a hanger with clothespins to dry by the heater vent.

Nothing was ever wasted, things were always "prepared" and ready for use so I guess it was never about when SHTF, it's like living as if it already had !

Probably the Obama years started me believing that SHTF might be right around the corner.

Definitely now with our current POTUS and the laughing hyena by his side.

I believe that anyone in the world willing to work hard and forge out a decent, respectful life for themselves in the United States of America is entitled to do so.  But with the current immigration policies (or lack of it would be a better analysis) it is my opinion that this will be a major contribution in the eventual collapse of a once great nation.

Without proper vetting we are admitting criminals, drug traffickers, and terrorists in our midst.

And the way the US is handing out financial assistance to newcomers, it's no surprise that the majority of them have no motivation to move on from their life of what seems "endless" government subsistence.

Occupy Wall Street was the first sign for me.  That was under Obama.  His administration and the local politicians that allowed that to go on for months while voicing approval and support for their "protests" proved the government will stoke the firsts that fuel the conflict between the "haves" and the "have nots."

That's the path to a Socialist revolution, which has always resulted in violence and mass casualties.
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
