Sometimes the best thing that can be done when someone cracks a joke at you is roll with the joke. If he yelled at the camera "F&% you buddy" the headline would be that he was unstable instead. It was a lose lose situation either way

How about:

"Hey buddy, its xmas and thats uncalled for". Or "c'mon man, its xmas".

I think he doesnt know what it means and neither does his wife. And it fits his normal way of not knowing whats going on, nothing new.

That would be fine too in my eyes but guarantee someone would criticize him saying his reply was weak. Should have called him out to fight in the parking lot with his rusty razor blade like a man.

I dont think they would call him weak. It has to be PG due to kids watching, but yet acknowledge in a strong way. So C'mon man would be acceptable.

Most people would respond with "Same to you buddy, same to you every day of the week and twice on Sunday."

I still think joe doesn't have a clue as to what "Let's go Brandon" means. 

If he were mentally sharp, he'd already have a dozen comebacks ready to go.  It's not like the phrase is going away anytime soon.  And this is not the first time he and other high level Democrats have been heckled with the slogan.

I was raised in the South where the phrase, "Well, bless your little heart!"  was born.  It's a mechanism to halt an argument and slam the other person at the same time, all the while remaining calm, smiling and avoiding a scene.

Caller:  "Merry Christmas, and Let's Go, Brandon!"

Biden:  "Well, bless your heart. Buh-bye!!"

A good portion of the nation would understand what happened, and the response would be like:
