Child was hit while in the dressing room behind the bad guy. She died, age 14.

Why its important to know whats behind ur target and richottes or penetration of ammo used.

1 report says girl was hit with a richochett off the ground. If that is true, then negligence might come to play IMO.

Is this the same story? I do not use instagram.

https://japantoday.com/category/world/girl-14-killed-by-la-police-in-clothing-store-shooting

The tendency of cops to double tap and fire off many rounds in the heat of the crisis, makes stray shots a reality. Because this is a police investigation now, we can expect a detailed ballistic report. Lethal force, even with hollow point, makes interior walls easy to penetrate. Carrying .22LR is not an ideal answer.

Sorry the girl was shot during the incident. But, this type of tragedy could also happen when civilians are involved in self-defense incidents and choose to use a 9mm firearm instead of non-lethal weapons.

Thanks for posting. It shows on my Tapatalk app, but not on desk top. I used a link from IG.

Many things I've noticed from when he arrived.
1) Only had 1 mag, unless he had more on his body, I didn't see him grab extra.
2) Didn't sling until he was inside the store. Should have been done as he was running from his car into the store.

Maybe I'm missing something.  Are you suggesting using a 9mm for self/home defense is just an accidental death of an innocent person waiting to happen?

This story is a "wrong place, wrong time" event -- nothing more or less.  Walls are not constructed to stop bullets.  If you are lucky enough to be behind a concrete or block wall, you'll be better off.  That's not something to count on.

Using deadly force to stop a crazy person with a gun could have saved more lives than the girl accidentally killed by friendly fire.  If the Cops hadn't shot, then what?  The gunman takes hostages?  Runs to the dressing room and finds both the mother and daughter and shoots both?  The "what-if"s are endless.

The Cops made a decision to shoot, and the resulting death was tragic.  But that doesn't mean the Cops need to hold their fire because someone might be directly behind the perp in the next room.

As facts come out about the shooting, it appears that the lone cop was using a rifle, and was told to slow down.

(NPR) Multiple people including store employees called police to report a man striking customers with a bike lock at the store in the North Hollywood area of the San Fernando Valley. One caller told a 911 dispatcher that the man had a gun. No firearm — only the bike lock — was recovered at the scene.

Any incident with an innocent civilian death will bring out a "Better Call Saul" attorney, in this case, Ben Crump. The brass at LAPD is going to have another headache, and the city is going to be hit with another million dollar lawsuit. I am not saying life is fair, but bleep happens in our system of justice. This is not that far removed from a citizen in the future with a CCW permit in HI shooting perps or innocents in a store. There are always risks, and you have to make the right decision in a very stressful moment. This begs the question: who has been involved in an actual event with an armed criminal?
An old wag once said, "If we can send a man to the moon, why can't engineers invent a Robocop who can fight criminals without using a firearm?"
