I find that the rise or fall of crime statistics tend to correlate directly with the party in power.  That's due to the fact that the reporting of, or failure to report, said statistics is likewise correlated to the party in power.

IOW, when Democrats are in power, the media covers their collective ass by spinning, lying about and hiding anything negative about the party.  For Republicans in office, the media does the same for positive reports while exaggerating the negative.

I heard a statistic that 65% of American citizens view the media as an enemy of the people.  I assume the remaining 35% were the media and their party members.
