I thought most SD scenarios end up where no re-loads were performed. It seems the above scenario is the exception, not the rule. But I do agree it can happen.
Most SD scenarios end up where no SHOTS ARE FIRED.

As no shots are fired, there is no report made.
Most recent info End of 2021
No shots were fired in 81.9% of those defensive use cases. 50.9% of the time, displaying the firearm was sufficient to scare off the attacker; 31% of the time, simply telling someone they were armed prevented the attack from taking place. Only 18.1% of the time was firing the gun required to defend their life.
Findings, based on extrapolations of an internet poll of gun owners, was that self-defense gun use occurs about 1.67 million times per year in the United States.
The authors note that this number could be conservative and the real estimate might be closer to 2.8 million defensive gun incidents per year.
Even the CDC data resulted in an average of 1,109,825 defensive gun uses each year surveyed.

Premise was to "Stop the threat" (a.k.a. Alter bad behavior).

End result was basically "How many times do you want to get shot even with a .22 ?"

Those getting shot were either disabled and stopped advance or ran away. Of course variations of results came with drug use.

Back to Stang, the "Magic Bullet" that had the most fatalities was the .357 Mag.
