Pelosi Congress Claims Sovereign Immunity in Federal Court to Keep Secret Jan 6 (Read 5812 times)

Were laws not broken when the FISA warrant applications were submitted?  Even Comey admitted he would not have signed them now, given the facts that have been made public.  Of course, he pretended those problems with the applications were unknown to him at the time.  Incompetent, or a liar?

Yes, and it was terrible, but what are we to take away from that? The FBI can never investigate anyone again? Should all FBI cases be tossed out because a few officers abused the system and the courts didn't do what they were supposed to? Or does just Trump get this immunity?

You do realize that the investigation looking at Trump's tax returns are not an FBI investigation right? So what then? No one can investigate Trump ever again?

When we (conservatives) rightly are scared of too much government power, why do we toss out that concern when it comes to Trump?

You sound confused. Did you miss nap time or something?

My nap time is at 3  :thumbsup:

We can take away the abuse of the government. And when a false narrative is pushed for years, we can not trust them until it's earned back.  I'm sure it was more than just a few FBI agents involved.  At this point, I have lost almost all confidence in many government agencies due to what they've been doing since 2016.

So instead of me just believing what ever story they create, I now have to look deeper into it to see if there is something deeper going on.  Of course certain stories there is no need to do so and can be taken at face value.

Your hyperbole is boring.

The thing that needs to happen is the FISA warrant system needs to be extremely restricted or completely abolished, which BTW was created out of the Patriot Act to investigate TERRORISM -- not election interference.

When the federal agencies under the Executive Office are weaponized against a political enemy/outsider, it doesn't matter what agency has jurisdiction.  The IRS, by the way, doesn't do tax fraud investigations.  That falls under the US Dept of the Treasury.

When Capone was charged with tax evasion, it was a CRIMINAL charge made by the Treasury Dept.  When Capone lied in court, he was arrested as he tried to leave the courthouse by the FBI -- for criminal contempt of court.  He was convicted and sentenced to less than a year in prison plus all kinds of fines and court costs as well as back taxes and penalties.

The laws may reside on one side of the organizational fence or the other, but these cases often cross those boundaries when the government wants/needs them to.

Just taking it to the logical end.

Agreed. Agents should be fired and judges removed for what happened.

So one agency bad, they are all bad?

Strange that the IRS doesn't do criminal tax fraud investigations, especially given their website says they do.

Again, not that I have full faith in the federal government but its awfully convenient that this argument would serve as an excuse to avoid prosecuting Trump.

When the agencies in charge of enforcing the laws are weaponized under a corrupt Executive Administration, then, YES, all those agencies using their powers unjustly are "bad."

When criminal cases are brought, they are brought by the US Treasury, not the IRS.  The IRS is actually an agency that's part of (underneath) the Treasury Department.  Any powers they have flow through the Treasury.

Investigations, fines, penalties, liens, freezing of assets and so forth are things the IRS can do as they are civil in nature.  When you get into charges of tax fraud, the Treasury gets to do that.

Strange.  You went to the IRS site, but not the Treasury site....   :rofl: :rofl:

The Department of the Treasury is organized into two major components the Departmental offices and the operating bureaus. The Departmental Offices are primarily responsible for the formulation of policy and management of the Department as a whole, while the operating bureaus carry out the specific operations assigned to the Department. Our bureaus make up 98% of the Treasury work force. The basic functions of the Department of the Treasury include:

Managing Federal finances;
Collecting taxes, duties and monies paid to and due to the U.S. and paying all bills of the U.S.;
Currency and coinage;
Managing Government accounts and the public debt;
Supervising national banks and thrift institutions;
Advising on domestic and international financial, monetary, economic, trade and tax policy;
Enforcing Federal finance and tax laws;
Investigating and prosecuting tax evaders, counterfeiters, and forgers.

I didn't say the Treasury doesn't do criminal tax fraud investigations, I said that the IRS does do them and the IRS website verified that.

Secondly, though trust has been eroded by wrongdoings in the federal government, I don't consider that a pass for Trump to not be investigated further if the evidence justifies it.

That qualifier seems to be glaringly absent from your other posts.

There's been no evidence publicized that any reasonable person would think justifies more investigating.  It's been a witch hunt from day one of Trump's campaign and presidency.  The day of his inauguration, Democrats (including one of the primary investigators against Trump) tweeted that the impeachment of Donald Trump started that day.

I don't know how we allow people like this to investigate other people.  From the FBI to the Hillary campaign to the Obama White House, the way they weaponized the government to go after Trump JUST BECAUSE HE WAS RUNNING AGAINST HILLARY should be treated as insurrection.

None of these investigations started until Trump was a candidate.  Suddenly, we're to believe he's the next Hitler.

Insane!!
