Super Bowl LVI
« on: February 11, 2022, 07:47:40 PM »
I just looked it up, and apparently Super Bowl LVI is this Sunday, Feb 13th.

Seems year after year, it get harder to remember we still have that thing happening.

Looks like the LA Rams and Cincinnati Bengals are playing.

I noticed a very over-the-top production for a couple of ads on YT this week, so I assume they may be previews for Super Bowl Sunday ads?

The one with Scarlett Johansson for Amazon's Alexa is pretty funny.  The other with two women trying to best each other over things they bought like it was a poker tournament was just stupid.

Anyway, if you're interested in this event, thought I'd post a reminder and comment of some ads that I think might be related.

Ever since the players made the game political, I think a lot of fans just stopped caring.

I was at Whole Foods last year and caught a glimpse of an NBA game with woke propaganda filling every spare inch of the screen. It was a total turnoff.

Another one here going on the record of not caring anymore.

Used to once.  Loved Professional Football.

Thanks for the reminder, Flapp.  Didn't realize SB is tomorrow.  Probably would've found out....tomorrow, lol!

I agree that the politics in professional sports killed it for me and for many other people.

Joe Burrow's revenge tour has fueled his breakout season at LSU

Use to be a Niner fan but turned it off. I'm cheering for Joe Burrow for his story and Gung Hee Fut Choy is the year of the Tiger! Go Bengals!

I've lived in very rural locations since the early 80's so no MSM and thus no live "sports".
at my home.  Only satellite is available.  Live feeds and "local Honolulu" channels cost a
lot of extra money.
Although I was able to get the last America's cup races live somehow, for free.
Judging from what I read and from the re-played games I've seen, I'd say I'm not missing a damn thing
by not watching or attending professional sports games.
Too political.

Super Bowl LVI: the numbers
behind America's most-watched event
Quote
With 70,000 people in attendance and more than 100 million projected to tune in on Sunday,
Super Bowl LVI is expected to post record-breaking ratings.

For only the second time in the National Football League's history, the host city will play in the
“Big Game” when the Los Angeles Rams take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Inglewood, California.
That could be why ticket prices have steadily dropped in recent days, as Angelenos wait to buy
tickets for what they perceive as a home game.

Still, they're going to be spending big money for a seat inside SoFi Stadium.

Fans looking to enjoy a VIP experience on Sunday will have to dole out about $38,000, while
Ticketmaster, the NFL's official ticketing partner, listed prices of up to $75,000 per VIP ticket.
Ticket-booking company StubHub reported that, as of Friday, tickets for seats in the rafters cost
$4,036.

Wait, wait there's more. Parking will be “extremely limited” because of festivities outside the
stadium, the city of Inglewood said, meaning those planning to drive will pay a pretty price tag.

On StubHub, parking prices vary wildly, with the cost of spots ranging from $283 all the way up
to $6,970.

Nearby residents eager to get in on the action are charging hundreds of dollars for parking spots
in private garages and driveways, The Los Angeles Times reported.

Retailers are set to earn $14.6bn from the game this year through sales of merchandise and other
items, said the National Retail Federation, which has tracked Super Bowl spending plans since 2007.

Those who won't be heading to the $5.5 billion state-of-the-art stadium are predicted to spend $78.92
on game-related expenses this year, with food and beverages accounting for 79 per cent of spending.
...
Super Bowl advertisements starring A-listers have become a traditional part of the Big Game with some
people only tuning for them. This year's crop will include Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Scarlett Johansson,
Anna Kendrick, Matthew Matthew McConaughey, Salma Hayek, Will Smith, Eugene Levy, Pete Davidson,
Brie Larson and Dave Bautista with sidelined Lindsay Lohan returning to the game for Planet Fitness.

Last year, 76 per cent of viewers cited advertisements as a reason for tuning in and 30 per cent said
they were a major reason to watch the game, global decision intelligence company Morning Consult said.

Broadcaster NBC, which is also hosting this year's Winter Olympics, said its advertising slots have sold out.

Last year's Super Bowl generated $434.5m in in-game revenue, research firm Kantar reported. With
commercial slots going for as high as $7m this year, NBC expects to profit more than $500m in advertising
revenue.

What really turned me off was seeing so many shady calls over questionable plays that just happened to swing the odds in the favor of Vegas. With widespread sports gambling comes a huge incentive to throw games, and it’s difficult for me to get emotionally invested in something that is so obviously corrupt.

They still do those?  Been several years since I took note of anything they did.   I recall something a clown called Caperdick or something alienating all but the leftists.

Guess they still care.    Sort of like CNN, something keeps them paid.

All kinds of background stories in this one.
- joe Burrow from semi-depressed former mining town in southeastern Ohio. Super Bowl in second year.
- Matt Stafford. Hall of Fame 12 year career but no playoff wins until this year.
- Eric Weddle. All-Pro safety called out of retirement of 2 years to play in playoffs for Rams due to injuries to current players and earns starting position in Super Bowl.
- Odell Beckham makes super bowl by eating ego and working #2 option. (Odell and Krupp, what a combo)

I’m looking forward to it.

The personal stories do make it more interesting.

I got invited to a party and there's no surf tomorrow so now it's time to make a best effort to pretend to care.

They asked which team and I picked the Bengals because it's not Commiefornia and tiger stripes are cool.

Our family went Chinese zodiac.
Those born in the year of Tiger root Bengals (Dragon sister joined her to)
Those of us born in the year of the Rams root Rams.
We had to find a reason to root for a side.
Both sides have great back stories though.

Guess I’m an odd ball…..
Never cared for football period…..
Have never seen a Super Bowl nor do I want to….. think I was 18 when Super Bowl I was played and the only thing I remember was it was the Jets vs who knows….
Pro sports has become totally political, a sewer of affirmative action and is reflective of how well America “kisses ass” nowadays.
Used to love baseball at any level but have lost interest in it over the past 10 years or so. As a kid I used to live 20 minutes by bicycle from Yankee Stadium. My friends and I used to ride over to the stadium and hand out programs and were treated to a ball game with dogs, soda and cracker jacks by the Yankees. Got to meet Yogi Berra, Roger Maris, Joe Pepitone, Whitey Ford and Mickey Mantle (he was an ass though). They were (except Mantle) real gentlemen.
Not like the pompous bozos of today….
Enjoy your game, no matter what it is…..

When the spread is 4.5, the game ends with a 3 point difference, and people are saying “wow those guys in Vegas sure are good at predicting this stuff”

Apparently, the halftime show was a RAP-fest.

I didn't miss anything.  I can catch the fabulously expensive ads on YT later.

My wife and I went to Safeway late in the 2nd quarter.  Even when we had it tuned to the Super Bowl I actually was watching You Tube videos and only once in a while would glance at the game.

When we came back from Safeway I realized we missed the halftime show.  I know my wife likes to watch it so I apologized and reminded her that she needs to let me know about this kind of stuff because I don't care for SB anymore.

I started to cook dinner and my wife mentioned she was sad that the Rams won.  I wasn't really paying attention to what she was saying so I said, "what?!"......She repeated herself and I said oh, sorry....I thought you were talking about dinner stuff......

Shows how I did a complete 180 when it comes to SB and Football, lol!!  There was a time I used to be glued to that TV screen when it came to the Super Bowl.
