No one will be able to buy a taser anytime soon
« on: February 15, 2022, 03:39:22 PM »
Permitting dept asking for course syllabus, lesson plan, or some kind of doc that shows course content for sellers class they took.

Then all sellers background checks (most are FFL's) are being held up at HPD due to staffing issue and FBI not allowing them to use their background check system. HPD blaming a "flaw" in the bill.

This was supposed to be simple, but HPD, politicians, and AG all messed it up.

They supported the taser bill and all us pro2a guys/organizations opposed it. And now we have more examples of why.

Tasers have been legal since 1/1/22 and none are able to be sold in Hawaii legally yet.

What's sickening is the same people who wrote this "broken" law are already introducing bills to further restrict this new law, even though at this stage it's no different than the previous ban.

Maybe if they spent more time and effort on crafting a workable law, and less time trying to prevent the law from being implemented as it should, we would not be in this mess.

There are people who have them in Hawaii, acquired by mail order or bought on mainland and mailed here.  Cannot put Taser in suitcase as baggage because of the lithium battery.

If the battery comes out easy, you can put it in your carry  on and the rest in checked baggage.
In the cabin there are ways to deal with a battery fire where if it goes off in cargo it can be a problem.
I have done it this way with consumer electronics.

Not according to Taser's own website. It says it uses two CR123 lithium batteries.

The Pulse has been discontinued.  Pulse+ and Pulse both take Lithium batteries.  The Pulse used a proprietary battery pack (but its removable) and the Pulse+ takes regular CR123 batteries that you can purchase anywhere.

From what I was told, it was supposed to be discontinued.  Maybe selling remaining inventory.  Personally, I would rather have the Pulse+ because of the fact that I can just go to the store and purchase the CR123 batteries versus buying tha battery pack from Taser.  Not sure if you would be able to get the battery pack anyways because of shipping.

The Pulse+ takes  2 CR123 Lithium batteries.  I've handled the Pulse+ already and actually fired it.  Pulse takes their battery pack.  If you go on Taser website and look under accessories, the picture clearly shows that its lithium batteries.  It says right on the label (8.82 Wh Lithium Batteries)

Taser will not sell not ship any accessories to Hawaii.  You can't even have them ship a holster to Hawaii.  Why?  I don't know.  Maybe they needed to update their system.  As far as the batteries, I doubt they will ship it (even if they could) because of shipping regulations.

Best bet, buy a Pulse+.  CR123 batteries are readily available here in Hawaii.

If selling dealerships took their course from a certified Taser instructor, the course syllabus (PowerPoint Slides) were provided to all students.  Mines was provided on a thumb drive.

https://stungunsuperstore.com/taser-pulse-battery.html

My suspicion is, since they have to now deal with an OCONUS market that's not very lithium friendly, they've decided to either replace the batteries with non-litium for Hawaii shipments, or they can remove them and have you replace them at your local Taser retail outlet.

Battery restrictions are another "gotcha" that makes consumers consider buying from a local retailer.

If you're contacting the company, I'd ask specifically if there's a different battery for Hawaii vs. mainland online sales.

My Son-in-law just got a new laptop.  They have the HAZMAT labels on the outside of the box.  All the packaging, charge levels, etc have to comply with the rules in the link.  Current guidance as of Sept 2021.
