Wait what?

"similar product". And like HI does, more regulation the better right.

And of course the bill doesn't take into account marketing cost for 1 item over the other. Volume of sales.  The high schooler who brought this bill was on KHON2 this morning and used a bike helmet as an example.

Blue helmet with boys popular character on it cost X. And pink helmet with girls popular character cost more. Same make and model.

Did she or anyone ever go into the cost to make each, as in does pink color cost more to make?  How about volume sales? Maybe the boys helmet sells more, so it can be cheaper.  She claims she did her research and as a 16 year old high school student, I don't know to what level she did it.

But generally, more government regulation doesn't mean better.  And of course it was our 2nd favorite senator who submitted the bill Chris Lee (super anti 2a and sits on the committee with Rhodes).

*Edit
What I predict if this were to pass, retailers increase the price of the boys stuff to match the girls stuff.

Another possible unintended consequence is that they stop making products for girls or boys and make everything one size fits all.   Kind of like the socialist government model?  No matter if a girl has a different body type than a boy... oh wait...

I mean the bill could be worst, calling for gender neutral items. Prob would happen in a few years by the same senator.

Is the "boys" bike helmet cheaper because they sell more of them, or do they sell more of them because they are cheaper?

How many girls are wearing a "boys" blue helmet because it was cheaper?  Was cost the deciding factor, or was it the fact that almost all boys and most girls don't like pink?

Rather than force manufacturers to make what YOU want and price them the way YOU think they should be, why not start YOUR OWN bike helmet business?  Order some plain helmets, design and apply the colors you like, and sell them at a price you think is fair.

THAT'S how it's supposed to work.  Nobody, including businesses, are required to make ANYTHING a certain way as long as they comply with safety standards.

All this person is going to accomplish is reduce the number of manufacturers and choices available to the consumer.

Pink helmets cost too much?  Fine.  We're discontinuing the pink.  Feel free to buy the cheaper blue one now.
