S & W MP EZ 9mm

...this will be the second time I return it to S & W for malfunctions:

At random, and I mean totally at random: the trigger does not fire the round when pulled all the way (and allowed to reset of course) and sometimes the rack stay back opened and does not chamber the following round.
frustrated at hell

Thanks to @Okfco5 my EZ9 now feeds flawlessly with all 6 magazines!

I took magazines 3, 4, 5, and 6 apart and smoothed out the mag lips, the inside of the magazine, and the follower with a Dan's Soft (medium) Arkansas pocket sharpening stone. The pocket stone was a good size for getting inside the magazine where it needed to be.

I did not lube them; just smoothed them.

I also polished the feed ramp of the gun with Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish.

Today, I ran 176 rounds through the gun, focusing on the "problem mags" - 48 rounds each through mag 4 & 5, which previously had ~30% FTFs - and 32 rounds each for 3 & 6, which previously had ~5% FTFs, plus 8 rounds each through the previously flawless 1 & 2.

I used a total of 92 rounds of Winchester Target 115 Grain FMJ (1190 fps), and 84 rounds of STV Scorpio 124 Grain FMJ, (1181 fps.) (The fps number is from the box, so...)

No issues at all. Perfect. No FTFs, nothing. slick as grease through a goose.

I feel a lot better now, because I really like this gun.

IMO, this is way too much effort to go thru for a gun. I mean lemons happen with every gone, but if this is a common issue, then the model is trash. I'm not planning on buying 1, so I never researched about the EZ.

I didn't see where it's a problem with the gun, only with the magazines.

If the mags are being produced with flaws that are correctable with a little know-how and smoothing, I personally consider that minor effort.

There are S&W revolvers with canted barrels that cause the front sights to be off to the left or right.  Shipping that back to the factory for repair is a significant effort and inconvenience.

I also didn't see where this was a common problem.  Only a few people seem to be posting their negative experiences.  In fact, reviews are very favorable.  For example:

What makes the M&P9 SHIELD EZ so easy?

The purpose of the original SHIELD EZ design was to offer a pistol that’s easier to use at every level for those
who may have struggled with semi-automatic handguns before. That means easy to load magazines, easy racking
of the Armornite-coated stainless steel slide, easy field stripping, and modest recoil. The EZ design is even touted
as being easier to clean. The thing is, all of those claims are true.

If they made design decisions with the mags and then had to make the mags work in the gun, it's possible there may be a problem that's corrected with a little effort or simply breaking them in.  Not every gun claims "perfection," as most appropriately avoid doing.

As with any new gun, the owner needs to take it to the range a few times to function check it as well as develop his/her familiarity with it.  That includes running all the mags through many times, as even the most reliable brand/model mag can have manufacturing, compatibility or damage issues.  If you're going to entrust your life to a tool, best to make sure the tool is up to the task.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.
