    I think CR deserved it.
He thought it was OK to joke about WS's wife's medical condition.
An insult to another mans wife more than a joke.

    If your wife had cancer and losing her hair, would a bald joke directed at her still be funny ?

   Would saying there's a beached whale on the sand when your wife has a pituitary gland problem and is sunbathing be funny ?

     Personally, I think it would have been better to go on stage, gesture CR to the wings and slap his ass there just to be "considerate".

The "buzz" is, Chris didn't know she was suffering from the disease alopecia.  He must have assumed her "hair style" was a conscious choice, like Sinéad O'Connor.  Maybe he should bounce his material off a few people who are more connected with what's going on with specific celebrities before airing it on live TV?  Sounds like a profitable business model:  Joke Vetting -- ensuring no A-listers will be overly offended by your jokes.  B-listers and below will probably be grateful for having their names mentioned!

I really like Will Smith as an actor. He is skilled and well spoken when I have heard him talk about other subjects.

I lost a bit of respect for him on this, especially considering what his wife did to him with their son's friend. She deserves much worse than a GI Jane joke.

I saw an NBC (orABC?) headline about how the slap was rooted in racism. I thought it was a Bee joke... Nope! It was a real opinion piece.

On April 1, Will Smith announced he'd formally resigned from the Academy.  This prompted the Academy board to move up the meeting to discuss the altercation 10 days earlier than originally planned.

After expediting a meeting by ten days to discuss the disciplinary actions Will Smith will face after slapping Chris Rock on the Oscars stage, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has reached a decision.

The Academy's Board of Governors met Friday and after the vote, the Academy President and CEO said, "The Board [of Governors] has decided, for a period of 10 years, from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards."

It says he can't attend the events or programs, but will he be barred from any nominations for awards?  Not that they really matter to anyone but the actors.  Actors patting other actors and motion picture contributors on their backs.

The only reason he wasn't arrested is Chris Rock declined to press charges.

I wouldn't consider what Rock said as a dis, but instead a comic doing what comics do.  Make fun of famous people.  Rock didn't know she had a condition.  I didn't even know that.  I've even heard him use that condition in a movie like 20 years ago, but I didn' t know what it was until this happened.  I wanna say it was Down to Earth.
