Wet Okole Seat Covers?
« on: October 18, 2012, 10:34:27 AM »
Just picked up a new car and want to protect the seats.

Are wet okole seat covers worth the $200+ dollars?  I surf regularly so they'll definitely get some use.

Thanks 2A!

I had some Wet Okole's for my '99 4Runner and they were great!  I no longer have that car, but I thought there were well worth it.

I was living in WA at the time and they were great for all sorts of outdoor activities and keeping the seats clean, easy to clean and care for, etc.  In fact, the first week I got them, my coworker spilled coffee on the seat and the wet okole cover kept all of the coffee on top and didn't soak any in or get through to the seat.

They can be a PITA to put on, so if you buy them locally, have the shop put them on for you.  They used to do that free when I bought my set, but since I lived in WA at the time, I had them shipped to me.

Some of the newer cars have airbags built into the seats and they are not compatible with seat covers.  So as long as you don't have those kinds of seats, you'll be GTG>

I looked at those seat covers when I bought my new Tacoma in '05 and opted for another brand. They look nice when new but I've seen some knarly-looking old ones. They also tend to stretch and sag over time.  I opted to buy custom made ones manufactured with water proof canvas. The company makes the covers to fit your vehicle with all the appropriate hole for seatbelts, etc. and you can choose the color combination. The end product is custom as opposed to the Costco-one-size-fits-all covers. It's been so long ago that I can't remember the name of the company but their facilities are located in Aiea. I think the cost was a little more than Wet Okole's but well-worth it. I paddled canoe a lot and guys regularly piled into my truck to do Hawaii Kai runs with one-mans so the covers have seen some good action over the years. The covers are durable, easy to remove and wash, have only slightly faded with time and use and still look great after 7 years. I'll post the name of the company if and when I remember it.

Awesome! This is exactly the kind of info I'm looking for.  They're pretty pricey, but I think they'd be good to protect my seats.

Nice, i've always liked the look of canvas over neoprene.  Do they smell weird though?

HIgh quality canvas material is used and there is no smell to the material. The company will also custom cover your headrest too!

I found my receipts! The company is called

Hawaiian Seatcovers

94-170 Leoole St.
Waipahu, HI 96797
808-676-3754

HawaiianSeatCovers.com

Can't vouch for whether any of the information is still accurate but its a start.

My total cost to cover both Driver and Passenger seats, the rear split bench seat and 5 headrests was $384, inclusive of GET.

Totally worth it IMO. It also makes your seat more comfortable.

Oh right, forgot about that. I ordered mine same week I got my truck in 2007. Not sure why it takes so long to produce but they don't make it till you order it (like Jack in da Box, lol). Pick colors, piping if you like, logo if you like, and they send the specs to their manufacturing place in....California (I think).

Hawaiian Seatcovers can measure; fabricate and install your  covers in about two hours.
