I always thought they should pay the Hawaiian's to put a penitentiary on Kaho'olawe.
Land is currently pretty useless, an island like Alcatraz  practically secured by un-exploded ordinance, still in the state for relatives to visit (bring back the ferry) and an escape as difficult as it may be would not "threaten" local residents.   :geekdanc:
I haven't read up on that in a while, but I thought the process of clearing had been started.  Maybe even completed, or to certain extent.

It started in the 90's, but wasn't a major clean up. More like volunteer type of numbers.  My mom who was with the AG at the time and went there as a group for the office to visit it.

1 issue was that 1 of the big bombs dropped messed up their underground water source. Think of it like  jar of water, half fresh water and half salt water. And the 2 separate leaving the fresh water at the top and the salt water at the bottom.  Then shake the jar.  That is basically what happened with the force of the explosion.  But with today's tech, maybe salt water to fresh water conversion is possible if only a small amount is needed. Like enough to run a prison and not a city.

Then due to having no buildings, the wind is very strong because there is nothing to block it.  And add in all the dirt/dust.

A prison doesn't have to be in the middle of the Island, but more near the edge where there is less ordinance used.  Then have a ferry service, but watch out fo da whales.  So a prison is possible, but HI rather spend $12 billion on a rail.

There arec thousands upon thousands acres of vacant land along the Daniel K Inouye Highway, more commonly known as the Saddle Road on the BI. No houses there.  It is also windy and cold, so buiild it 3 miles from the highway and make them wear thin bright pink with reflector stripes shorts and tshirt.  If they manage to escape from the heated building,  they would suffer hypothermia.  Relatives can visit easier and improve the BI economy.

My idea was so they utilize relatively un-usable land, the Hawaiian's get some money for this otherwise unusable land, not using inhabitable, build-able or ag land, it's relatively secure, no reason for neighbors to fear an escaped criminal and still in the state to visit (BI relatives gotta visit their incarcerated loved ones by traveling to Oahu).
You can still put them in thin bright pink with reflector stripes shorts and t-shirt (and bvd's).

Get plenty land not usable for ag.  Covered with pahoehoe lava. A 100 acres would be plenty for a prison.  What is good is no mo vegetation for hide in in the places I would select. Then I would make a 6 ft high safety fence inside. Then a 16 ft electric fence and finally on the outside a fence like they got around OCCC.

E-Bike business thefts on the news yesterday. Thieves use big saw to cut through steel door.

“People are now coming in an taking what they want,” said a frustrated Bitar. “Almost every week it feels like everyone’s getting hit and there’s no consequences for their actions.”

I'm not familiar with e-bikes but I did help my friend with wiring up a custom build 2 weeks ago.

I see quite a few of them in our 94 block. I commute to work on one.

They're all over the place nowadays. Pretty cool stuff. But this is getting way off topic.
I feel bad for the guy that runs that e-bike shop. Those crooks were pretty hardcore sawing through the steel door.

RE: Brazen criminals

Last week I went to Walmart later in the evening when it's not crowded.
As I was checking out, the salesgirl started yelling at a creepy guy with tats and gold chains.
When I was walking to my car, the same guy was following me.
I noticed him and grabbed the pepper spray and turned around.
He quickly ducked in between some cars.

They stole the truck and the heavy duty saws. It was a mini crime spree.

Then someone came back a couple days later and smashed through the front and grabbed some helmets.

A lot of places are getting hit two times in one week.

It's something worth considering. They can be had for less than 5 grand each and a table full of sandwiches.
