What are your thoughts on HPD's new chief?

I doubt he will be issuing CCW permits.  I really think giving one person complete control over what is supposedly a constitutional right is unconstitutional.

He won't issue CCW permits. Part of the deal to get the job.  I do know guys who served with him and he is a respectable leader.

Also he was in charge during the missile "false alarm". He told Ige within minutes it was a false alarm.

If I recall from posts here and sourced reports, Susan Ballard was in hot water with the police commission because she didn't have a valid defense for summary denials of CCW applications.  That policy, although a continuation of previous police chiefs, drew national scrutiny over its similarity to other states' policies which have been deemed unconstitutional.  In other words, requiring the applicant prove they have a specific justification for CCW is illegal.

The Police Commission will be looking for changes that essentially limit CCW to "trusted" individuals so the state doesn't lose another 2A battle in court.  Whether that involves issuing permits for OC or simply approving CCW for all who jump through the training and testing hoops, something has to give.

I think it becomes a catch 22:  don't want to issue CCW licenses, but can't deny the applicants without justification.

The law created a "May Issue" situation, but the Police Chief's policies have effectively turned the law into a "No Issue" state.
The reasonable man adapts himself to the world;
the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

Ballard was also involved with the recruit class who was cheating .But she was cleared of any wrong doing.

"The law created a "May Issue" situation, but the Police Chief's policies have effectively turned the law into a "No Issue" state."
This is certainly is a no issue state.
What we really need is a US Attorney that will enforce Federal law and put our police chiefs in Federal prison.
That may get their frigging attention.

“At the news conference, Hawaii News Now asked why the highlight of the incident was initially marked “Do Not Post To The Media” in red letters.”

Gee, that makes my confidence that they made a great choice just skyrocket….  SMFH.

Yeah, forget about CCW permits, he can’t even keep his own house in order.

Yes.  Whoever or whomever requested initially to mark the incident as a "Do not post to Media" is very disturbing.

We all talk about the swamp in Hawaii.  It is very deep rooted and stink.

I'm interested as to how Logan will handle this incident.  He should make a public statement.

He held a press conference and addressed it yesterday.

He states that he will treat everyone the same. But if you're the rookie who arrested the chiefs son, what do you think they would do?  He already got a "courtesy call" and he wasn't even the chief yet.

This is what happens when you have the same type of people on the selection committee.

Thanks.  I'm behind the curve, as usual, lol!

But WTF is a hand tool?  Why are they so vague?  "Hand tool" sure sounds less lethal than a knife, gun, hammer, etc.  Were they referring to something like a leatherman tool?

Dildo?  Fleshlight?  Those are hand tools too.  Although if I got caught using those as assault weapons I would opt for "hand tool" also.

Seriously though what I'm getting at is would they have used "hand tool" if it was just a common everyday joe like me?

This could be a good thing. Scandal right out of the gate undermines their ability to put through more dumb laws.
Stop blaming lazy people. We didn’t do anything.

It doesn't look great but I don't think it is a serious issue. The info was still published but just withheld until he was notified. Not really any significant special treatment in that it doesn't make a difference at any level. The real question is how it is handled afterwards.

His son apparently has a bit of a record, my guess is that his dad not going to bend over to help him.
