Suggestions for replacement folding knife?

not sure if this is the appropriate place for this thread, so Mods, please feel free to move it, as necessary.

so, yesterday evening, i broke the tip of my Spyderco Delica while working in the yard.

i had just finished cutting excess cord from my POS weedwacker that was failing to feed properly, and i dropped the Delica right on its point.

i've had the Delica for several years, and i appreciate its light weight.

i am now looking for a replacement, and i am hoping to get some suggestions to see what others are using.

thanks in advance, for your suggestions!

mahalo,

I like Benchmade & Kershaws, just cause.  OGC has some Griptilians you might want to look at.  Young Guns has Spyderco.  Power Edge has a bunch of stuff.

thanks, GZire.

should have also stated that, in addition to the busted Delica, i have an old CRKT and an old Cold Steel; however, the CRKT feels a bit too heavy, and i don't really care for the locking mechanism on the Cold Steel.

follow-up question for you... tanto or no tanto?

I've got a CRKT M16-13Z that has been an awesome knife for the past 10+ years.

As for the tanto vs no-tanto argument, I'd say it comes down to whether or not you are stabbing things a lot.

I've had a cold steel prolite tanto that has been great for the last 7 years.  Tantos are great to use as chisels or scrapers when needed.  I've cut some crazy stuff with them too. They're also great for a thick durable tip most of the time.

Send it back to Spyderco with a letter and they may just replace it for free--I know, I've gotten several brand new Spydercos over the past few years.

Indeed.  I think if one is into stabbing car doors, then tantos are great (GZ has a couple).

I tend to get a mixed blade (standard + serrated edge).  I think in the future I will start to go towards a standard blade now that I've started to get some sharpening tools.

i second zero tolerance, but most people dont wanna drop that kind of money on a knife, when dropping it tip first on concrete will badly damage pretty much any knife unless its one of those rounded tip seatbelt cutter knives lol.

to the OP, if its for yard work or around the house why a folder? get a mora for $10-15 or if you want a beast get a scrapyard http://www.scrapyardknives.com/knives.htm

I've had many folding knives.
just the kind you keep in your pocket for basic cutting, everyday knife.
this S&W one is the best cheap one i've found.
its pretty heavy, fits nicely in my hand (I really like that, bc most folding knives feel too skinny to me), and the assisted opening is pretty quick and strong.
when it opens and locks, theres a nice clunking sound and feel that you know its securely locked.
for a cheap, everyday pocket knife.  this one is pretty good.

I have a Benchmade Griptilian in my EDC pocket organizer, and I'm a huge fan.
I'm just a fluffy white bunny rabbit who lost his way.

If youre looking for something lightweight, its hard to go wrong with sog or benchmade.

If youre looking for something tough and beefy, cold steel or crkt.

I happen to be a big spyderco fan too, but the last blade I bought of theirs was an endura that was still made in japan, I think they are made in china or taiwan now.  Idk if the qc is the same.

I love my Emerson mini Cqc 15. It has both the tanto point, and a curved cutting area, best of both worlds.
