NRA Resignation
« on: May 26, 2022, 06:36:03 PM »
I’ve been a member of the NRA since 1968 when my father purchased a life membership for my 18th birthday and since that time I progressed up the membership ladder to Patron. Recent years have found me at odds with the NRA leadership and quite a few of their positions. Likewise I’ve corresponded with Willis K. Lee on a few occasions voicing my concerns. Sadly I’ve found him to be an arrogant person, non compromising and very “in your face” to the point of him telling me to get in step with the organization or get out as well as accusing me of being a “problem” who has helped to infect the NRA with my views.

The NRA’s refusal cancel their event after the mass shooting at Uvalde’s Robb Elementary School to help with the healing and in memorium of those who lost their lives, especially the innocent children, pushed me over the edge. When I voiced my displeasure to the membership director early this morning I was told that by quitting the NRA I’ll become the “enemy” of all gun owners and the 2A! Whatever flicks his Bic…….

Main thing is I feel better about my decision to cut my ties with them. Will continue to support and concentrate on pro 2A efforts here at home.  ^-^

Your choice of course.

Seems like the NRA is in a no-win situation.

If they cancel, the liberals will screech,"See, they know they are responsible! !"

Continue, and the liberals screech" "See, those callous monsters do not care !"

We all know what they are and how other organizations with much smaller budgets have made way more of an impact. Your money would be betters spent locally.
Stop blaming lazy people. We didn’t do anything.

Where where all you people when the Girls at a christian school in Nigeria was attacked by Moslems?
or when the Russian kids in Baslan were butchered and raped by Moslems?
quit if you wish, but you are pretty picky when it comes to kids getting killed.
I hold Democrat cops as a major problem in the Texas massacre.
They could have acted and they didn't.
Life goes on.
I don't like the NRA leadership but at some point you need to pick your battles
carefully.
I won't hesitate to fight the Democrats and their stupid laws.
When it makes sense to do so.
Now isn't that time to give up.
I'm HIFICO and GOA member, as well as NRA.

Do as you see fit.
As will I.

May I ask where you were when those girls and Russian kids were butchered?  As horrible as those events were my main concerns are children here in the US. Yes the cops were stupid and should have moved in but I’m not an armchair warrior so I won’t speculate or second guess. I’ve seen my share of violence in Vietnam, seen children butchered by American troops and was sickened by the madness there. Won’t get into the details of my 18 month tour or the politics of Vietnam at that time.
Like I said I’ll fight here on the home front but it’s time for the crooks in the NRA to be shown the door before they rot the organization away.
Respect your thoughts! :shaka:

Hawaii.
I voted against any director that supports the crooks.
My point is that the deaths of all kids is to be lamented.
and not used as a Democrat talking point to advance
a political or cultural agenda.

Agree with your last. The loss of any child’s life is horrible and hurts me to no end….

I respect your decision to do so, but IMO they should not cancel the event, nor any vendors pulling out.  This sends a win message to the anti 2a lobby.  And as you know, we have been losing for decades.  It would send a message to just put some kind of mass shooting on the national news to cancel any future events.

And the fact that the event was cancelled for the last 2 years (covid) and with limited time, it would have been too late anyways.

The above is just my opinion and I respect yours as well, but just wanted to offer some input.

I'm glad you still choose to support the local 2a fight.  HIFICO is the only local group leading the way to restore and prevent future rights from being taken away.

And just to be fair, I'm not a NRA member, but Mrs. CMO is a NRA instructor.  So same same.  If the roles were reversed, it's "NRA member by injection". IDK what the reverse phrase is.

Not saying it’s the NRA’s fault. What I’m saying is the NRA should show some concern and compassion for the victims and their families. If not cancel then at least postpone. Another reason I left is I always made it a point to donate to the ILA to the tune of $1000.00 per year for the last 15 years 7 of which were after I retired and really couldn’t afford it but it was for a great cause not for $3000 suits for Lapierre and not for a shit mouthed idiot known as W.K. Lee to tell me how f’d up I am to question the wisdom and direction the NRA is taking. No sir, not going to to stand for that BS! Instead I’ve funneled what used to be my yearly donation to Saint Jude’s.
No matter what I understand what you’re saying and appreciate your candor.

I have an opposing opinion.  The NRA should use this convention to hold discussions on how to help solve the problem of mass shootings in schools.  Adopt a state to implement those solutions, such as firearm safety and tactical response training for school personnel willing to be armed, work with state and local lawmakers to allow those people to carry on campuses, and run regular drills in the schools to make sure everyone knows how to react.

Maybe they could take some of the money they raise and invest in schools to create entry points that trap shooters.  The inner door only opens once the outer door shuts, and an armed resource officer controls that entrance.  One entrance/exit -- all other doors locked and ALARMED to prevent a teacher from propping it open.  Cameras throughout the hallways and around the perimeter would help, too.

One of the challenges is many schools are short of resources to increase security.  So, the NRA could spend some time fund raising and working with companies to donate to these schools and make them safer.

Imagine the positive press if the next school shooting is prevented by technology and people funded and trained by the NRA.  You couldn't buy that kind of publicity.

Why couldn't every school in the country use one of these?

https://hamiltonsecuritysolutions.com/solutions/entrance-security/entrance-security-vestibule.html

Many buildings already have dual door entrances to keep the HVAC pressure in the building constant.  Many jewelry stores have something similar to stop thieves.  Seems like a no-brainer for school security.

As for exiting when school lets out, I remember in our elementary and middle school, we'd wait in the auditorium until the busses were at the school and parked.  If a bus was late, those riders were told to remain inside until it arrived.  Everyone else exited a single set of doors to ensure everyone who rode the bus made it safely and wasn't left behind.

This should not be rocket science.  The main problem is nobody ever thinks it can happen at their school, so why spend the money and create all these procedures for something that will likely never happen?

I'll assume we are all NRA members or closely associated with it here on this thread.
NRA is supposed to be teaching safety and marksmanship.
Not doing politics. No HQ in Virginia crap schmoozing with the Democrats and Republicans
in DC. They should be in Nebraska.
We need a pit bull,  grab them by the throat till they're dead sort of attack organization
NRA is not that organization.

The NRA began as a marksmanship and safety training organization.  Since then, they found there is money to be made lobbying Congress to protect the 2nd Amendment.

That's why they now have the NRA-ILA organization -- to do the political stuff separate from the NRA itself.

I wish they would rebrand the Institute for Legislative Action (ILA)  arm of the NRA, but they will likely continue to use the NRA's name, since it's what people recognize.

I am of mixed opinions on whether they should cancel. It is kind of a lose lose situation but I do think cancelling may be a safer bet. People are very emotional right not and they are going to look at a decision not to cancel through emotional lenses, not analytical ones. They will see the decision not to cancel as cold hearted and it will foment anger as they already feel groups like the NRA are to blame. This is not good for the image of the NRA or it's causes.

I think my suggestion would be to cancel the normal show but replace it with a genuine forum to come up with ideas on how to tackle this phenomenon. Maybe panel discussions with experts on the matter for example. I don't know if this could be organized quickly enough though but it would be a way where an event could still be held but it would still be a step showing respect.

I will say that the way this Willis Lee guy treated you terrible and unacceptable. If he can't even handle constructive criticism without painting you as the enemy then he has no business leading such a major organization.
