You are still making assumptions about intent. You may think registration is proof of some intent towards ultimate nationwide confiscation but that it not the only possible reason someone might want firearm registration.

Please tell why someone might want firearm reg?

Because they believe it would help solve firearm crimes, prevent people from having certain illegal firearms, and to catch people who should not have firearms.

People do sometimes bring in guns to register at HPD only to have the confiscated because they are either illegal or the person is legally prohibited from owning firearms.

"Most Democrat voters" is not what anyone other than you is talking about.

We are talking about the officials Democrat voters elect.  Those.

You're avoiding the question. If you aren talking about elected democrats instead of democrat voters the challenge remains the same. Prove the assertion that most of them want complete gun bans. I tried looking for data to support your argument and couldn't find anything solid. So the question remains, can you prove your assertion. "But Feinstein..." isn't a statistical argument.

History teaches us can happen when guns are taken away. The extreme is Holocaust is 1. Then there's that DC rep from TX who was born in China. Her village was exterminated when she was a little girl. First they took the guns away. Which is why she vows to never give up her guns (AR15).  Sierra Leone, etc...

Here's a hypothetical. If the laws were passed that only allowed a single shot revolver ( rest of the cylinders blocked), would you be OK with this?  You can still own a gun since this would not be a total ban.  And 1 can only have 1 bullet in the household. If this were to happen, that means more of the 2a was chipped away at.  And there is still no evidence of a total ban, which would violate the 2a.  Would you not agree that the anti gun politiicans/people are not wanting a "total ban".

Now you're getting more into the nuance. (Which is a good thing)

In your hypothetical sure, someone could claim that having single shot firearms is not a total gun ban. Would I be ok with such an idea? Absolutely not but clearly my point of debate here has nothing to do with whether I am ok with it. The point is to illustrate that even on the left side with their gun control ideas there is a range of views. Some who would want all guns banned, some who would only allow single shot firearms, some who would only allow non semiautomatic firearms, some who wouldn't restrict gun types but just who can have them, etc etc etc.

We as gun rights enthusiasts are no different, we don't all think any person should be able to have any gun they want.

2 consfiscated out of 50,000 (2020) registered. Damnnnnn, the violating of having to register sure is worth it.

We discussed this b4, which is why i said no need reply.

Guys, the lefts views on guns are so wide ranging and different that all but maybe one elected democrat has a favorable rating by the NRA. They are so nuanced that almost every single gun control issue is supported almost unanimously by the left wing politicians. To follow the logical progression of the lefts arguments is to “assume intent”. We must wait until the cops are coming door to door, using our registration system (even though criminals don’t register their firearms, only law abiding citizens do, but we’ll ignore that and say they can be used for other things) before we can confirm their intent. Besides they are just confiscating “dangerous” AR15s that are responsible for 3% of gun deaths. The left is totally ok with the 80+% of gun deaths committed with handguns they definitely won’t come after those.

I think you can have ANY gun you want.

I am not a child, a felon, nor am I confined in a prison or mental hospital.

Even then I suspect at some level even you would consider some restriction on certain weapons as being reasonable. Grenades perhaps, chemical weapons maybe?

We are all for gun rights here and we don't all draw our lines in the exact same places but we all draw them somewhere.

You are replying to a different thing than I answered.

You did not ask me whether registration was effective, you asked me why someone would want it. Those are separate questions.
You asked for other reasons why people might want registration and I listed reasons why people might want registration. Replying that registration is not effective does not negate whether they believed it would work because your initial question is one of intent not of effectiveness.

Why does my wife's friend wear crystals? Because she thinks it absorbs negative energy. It doesn't really absorb negative energy but she believes it does and that is why she wears it.

Now as far as effectiveness goes well that is debate-able of course. Depending on who you ask the amount of confiscated guns necessary to be worth it is going to be different. At what number of guns confiscated do you think the registration requirement would be worth it? If registration caught 1 out of 100 guns as being illegal or illegally possessed would that be worth it? Just curious because this aspect of registration is inherently subjective.

I didn't realize people who possess guns illegally are stupid enough to register them,

In fact, if you're prohibited from possessing firearms, the courts have ruled you cannot be forced to register firearms you possess illegally.

To force you to register would violate the 5th Amendment of the Constitution -- you're being forced by the state to be a witness against yourself.

Therefore, don't believe registration catches or punishes anyone for illegally possessing unregistered firearms.

You didn't realize that some gun owners aren't as well informed about what types of guns are not legal here?

Please show where I said "some gun owners" are registering illegal guns,
and not that prohibited individuals who are illegally in possession of guns would be stupid to register them.

You said you didn't realize people who possess guns illegally are stupid enough to register them.

So, for example, a military member moves to Hawaii and brings with him an assault pistol and goes to register it because he doesn't realize it is illegal in Hawaii. He may be ignorant but I wouldn't call him stupid for trying to comply with the registration law.
