Then I'll buy AK47s and go into business. The real ones and Democrats can go fuk off.
I'm sure my local cops will like that.
Veneer of civil society is very thin right now.

This is a sales pitch for Red Flag laws.

Don't trust Karl Rove.

I do sometimes wonder if the size of our gun culture (for lack of a better label) is too big for our own good. If it has become an unhealthy obsession or identity instead of just a hobby.

I do fear democrats taking it way too far but I think there are some valid criticisms of our gun culture. We have by far more guns per Capita than elsewhere in the deleoped world and by far more firearm homicides than any other modern country. Of course there are many other factors at play but I don't think we can separate our violence problem entirely from the prevevlance of guns here.

We don't have more firearm homicides than any other modern country.  And also if you remove 4 cities from the total (gang/drug related) then we drop to almost the bottom of homicides of gun deaths.

The study is based on per capa.  I'm going by memory.  It was a 10 year study of about 100 nations.  USA ranked like in the 60's.  Then if Detroit, Chiraq, St.Louse, and New Orleans was removed, USA dropped to the 90's.  Again, going by memory.

Put it really simply for you since you sometime have problems with mathematics.
We have a USA "African Americans"  culture that nobody else does.
If you run the numbers when that culture isn't giving their unique cultural contributions,  America
is safer than most European nations.  We don't have as many Moslems as they do.
How to fix that cultural problem, I don't know.  Perhaps the Spanish cultures invading the USA will do it for us.

^^^What the media isn't talking about.  Add to that how many of their households are single parent (mother only to be specific).

I am very aware of that aspect but unfortunately we can't just toss out chunks of America so our numbers look better

Our gun culture is no different than our freedom of speech culture, right to privacy culture and right to due process culture.

Every right protected by the Constitution has a degree of abuse built in by the very nature of those rights being the foundation for freedom.  Criminals often "beat the rap" when the justice system fails to provide due process.  Pedophiles are allowed to do their thing because they are offered the same privacy protections as everyone else.  Corruptive communications are allowed in open media because of the First Amendment.

With liberty comes risks.  Focusing on the culture of guns is like focusing on the culture of self defense in general.  We have the right to defend ourselves from all threats, including a tyrannical government.  The people who embrace that right also see they have a duty to prepare should that day ever come.  And according to stats, upwards of a million people plus avail themselves of the right to self defense using a firearm every year.

That's not "culture."  That's freedom.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

So, the HPD troll regurgitates the liberal anti-gun mantra?
As if we did not know the official anti-private ownership of firearms line from them.

Just to be clear, when I referred to gun culture I only meant how we think and act about and around guns. This has nothing to do with gun control or any legislative action.

Of course gun owners are not monolithic and you will see a wide range of people types. From very serious shooters to idiots playing quick draw for fun against each other. Freedoms do mean that you can't weed out the idiots though. But maybe we can help to improve the culture anyways that will reduce shootings both intentional and accidental.

I'm just beginning to brainstorm here, no concrete ideas yet. Maybe something can be modified in a way that people don't have their first thought be of using a firearm to solve the problem before them. A simple example could be somebody who gets into a fist fight on the street and the first reaction is to shoot. The same could be said for our drinking culture as well, improvement could be made without requiring legal changes through social changes.

For someone who uses phrases like "not necessarily", you sure do like to make comments that are ridiculous and involve the small minority.

Show me stats of people automatically drawing a weapon to settle minor disputes.  Sure, there is anecdotal evidence with occasional road rage and domestic issues.  But show me the STATS that prove this is a significant and growing problem.

I'll refer you to the number of states that now have Constitutional, permitless and/or must-issue CCW permits.  Where is the study that shows your scenarios are on the rise?

The reason you have no such data is because the more GOOD GUYS are armed, the fewer BAD GUYS resort to pulling a weapon.  And there's no law in the world that can stop an irate, out-of-control soccer mom in a mini van from pulling a weapon on someone who cut them off from getting a parking spot.  Emotions don't care about the law.  But they might just check themselves if the other person is -- and a few others nearby are -- also armed.

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
