I would rather someone actually watch the movie before giving criticism rather than watching 2 minutes and giving their opinion.  although it might be a "woke" prequil, but I'll still watch it bc i like the Predator series

sometimes I like watching a not so good movie.  sometimes I like mindless violence
I liked Alien vs Predator, and Predators.  not so good movies but I enjoyed watching them

He's got a good point though. I'm tired of Mary Sue perfect-at-everything waifs with no character arc pushing woke politics while kicking the ass of technologically advanced ancient space hunters who wiped the floor with Ahnold when he made the mistake of going toe to toe.

Paying too much money just to get preached at is not entertainment. It's the sign of a doomed religious organization.

True.  A lot of the movies nowadays veil a "message" that they want to get across.

Did it start with "Free Willy?"

But like Stang mentioned, I like the predator series.  It might be mindless and some of the sequels were stupid but they were entertaining.

The concept is interesting.  The plot or message?  For me who da f**k cares.....

Exactly.  Mindless moving with guns, action, maybe some gore, etc.

Zactly!

I have a buddy that overanalyzes movies like this, or any really.  Get's exhausting, especially analyzing character arcs, what he expects, etc.   ::)

It'll be on Disney+, too.

Most movie streaming services have a free trial period.  Just saying.

It's something to do when the movie is bad so you don't get bored, but when you develop a critical eye and all of a sudden find your disbelief suspended in an actual good movie the reward is even sweeter.

The Drinker pointed out that Ahnold's character in the original Predator changed his strategy from that of a soldier to that of a hunter, and it showed a character arc that we didn't realize at the time but we definitely felt it and were fully invested because of those creative choices. That was a really good movie.

Ya.  I love the original Predator, including some of the nuisances that one (can) pick up watching it multiple times.

There are folks that the "disbelief" in character arcs that cause them to go on rants.  Ok, I get it, that person didn't like it.  But to be that extremely critical takes away from some of the enjoyment of movies, at least for me.

Arnold also discovered he could cover himself in wet mud as camouflage totally by accident.

That one element was the difference between him dying on the river bank and the rest of the movie happening!    :geekdanc:

So was that critical character evolution?  Or survival of the lucky?   ;D

He was lucky ... that the story writers had a little imagination.

What are the odds that he'd be covered in mud at that critical moment?

Or that he would be perfectly covered with mud.  Then eventually, it would try perfectly for a protective shell?   8)

I think the mud scene marked the beginning of his transformation. Before that he was used to being the strongest human with the biggest guns and toughest buddies, dominating everything in his path. The predator knocked him off the top of the food chain, came extremely close killing him in the process, and even though the mud was an accident it made him realize that he was no longer in a jungle war with conventional weapons but just another helpless animal in a primordial fight for survival.  He had to throw out his usual tactics, completely change his strategy, and as a result he went from being a quivering side of beef to one of the few creatures in the galaxy who actually took down a Predator. That's way more inspiring than anything that happened in the sequels.

Yeah, I can see that.  Part of the evolution, even though by luck/accident.  Realization of what happened was key in that evolution, like you mentioned.

While hella  :wtf: I like the similar pivotal point scene of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" scene from Alien vs. Predator.
