I wonder if the Big Island can secede from Honolulu?

Texas sucks weather wise, but is a good place to live.
I did stupid on the Sam Houston toll way one day and had to ask for change.
Got a disgusted look,  but I got change.

I did my ROTC Summer Training at Lackland AFB.  Our survival block of instruction was outside of Bergstrom -- big open desert area.  We were required to drink both 1Qt size canteens of water we all were given to carry each hour.  There were "water buffalo" tanks stationed through out to provide drinking water.  Within 6 hours, we all had symptoms of dehydration, even those drinking more than 2 Qts per hour.

During the month I was there (Early Aug), we had no fewer than 80% Red Flag days.  That's when the base hoists a red flag on all the poles signifying that it's too hot for physical exertion.  "Luckily", our morning PT started at 0515 everyday, so it was just hot -- not scorching.

We were in the old open bay barracks we learned were slated for demolition, but for that time, that was our home.  Giant window fans were all the cooling we had (other than cold showers), which of course brought in tons of dust and dirt we had to clean nightly before morning inspections.

The new Basic Military Training recruits had it much better with  air conditioned dormitories!

Red Flag days kept us from having to march everywhere in formation and at attention.  We just walked casually in loose formation and drinking water to avoid heat stroke.

I know from living in OK that Texas also gets their share of thunder storms and tornadoes, too.  The coast sees a fair amount of hurricane activity as well.  Then there are the Winter storms that can get dang cold.

All in all, the weather can reach extremes.  But, once you acclimate, it's tolerable -- if it doesn't kill you first!

I liked Texas the times I spent there.  Most everyone seems very normal if you have been around liberals too long.

Spent two weeks on a job at E-Systems in Greenville.  Would rain every night.  Sunny as hell in the morning.  Come out of the motel room to see steam rising off the grass.

Panama was the only place i have been more humid than Greenville.   Where you start sweating as soon as you are outside.

Arizona heat is far more easy to tolerate.

Holding any military invasion by the US empire constant, similar to Hawaii, Texas does have a legal US Constitutional argument to claim it was illegally annexed into the US via a Joint Resolution by Congress instead by an official treaty.  Any act by Congress only has jurisdiction within the territorial boundaries of the country.  As Texas was not a part of the US prior to its annexation, a Joint Resolution by Congress to annex Texas is a blatant violation of the US Constitution.

As for the Hawaii Island, that territory legally belongs to the territorial integrity of Hawaiian Kingdom and like the rest of the islands that comprise the Hawaiian nation will be free of US imperial laws once that empire begins to Balkanize via Civil War, economic collapse, etc.

My first trip to Guam was in July 1992.  I went out to my rental at lunchtime to go find somewhere to eat, and I thought my hands were being melted into the steering wheel!   :wtf:

From then on, if I drove to lunch, I'd let the AC run for a few minutes before attempting to sit in the car.

Add to that experience the stories of all the storms that hit the island (attested to by all the concrete utility poles and cylinder block buildings), and that's enough reason for me to never, ever live there.

I spent 16 months on Guam.  went through Typhoon Pamela in 1976.
Guam is far more firearm friendly than Hawaii.
If I had been able to get ocean view acreage as I have here, I would have gladly retired on Guam.
Not as many Democrats as we have here.( y'all expected me to say that).

I used to travel to Guam for work quite often, but haven't in the past 2+ years.  Longest I stayed on any trip was a little over 2 weeks.  There's a lot that I enjoy about Guam, including many close friends from college days, but I could never live there.  Would drive me   The weather is part of it, but so much else.  Couldn't 3x my pay and get me to live there.

If Hawaii leaves the states it would probably be the end of gun rights and other freedoms. Then again the hardcore liberals make up only a small percentage here and have a completely outsized voice simply because they have access to more federal money.

If balkanization happens it will be the group that is most organized who gets to take over.

Texas has the 10th largest economy in the world.  It has the 2nd largest economy of all the states after CA.

In contrast, Hawaii is #41 out of 50 states.

Given the high cost of travel to the state and transportation of materials and goods for sale, I think it'd be difficult for HI to compete globally with other producers without a few very lucrative niche markets.  Honey bees and seeds have recently become HI's main export products.

I can see TX being able to regroup into a sovereign nation-state and remain self-sufficient.  HI has a lot to overcome economically before they can even consider that move.  Military spending and tourism are still HI's main sources of income.  Take away the military bases and personnel stationed here, and you're removing $7.7 BILLION annually from the state's economy, which represents 8.5% of the states GP.

We would be somebody’s bitch if Uncle Sam stops paying the tab. The question is who?

My guess would be China.

However, even China might back off when they factor in how "high maintenance" the population is.

Chinese officials:  "Union?  What's that?"

My guess is that whoever holds political power in Hawaii could be a big influence on which superstate takes us under their wing next. If we don’t toss the Democrats then I can definitely see them leaning towards Chinese authoritarianism since they are such dedicated fans already (ahem, Josh Green). India, Australia, and Japan are not happy with China on the other hand, and India’s power is on the rise. At least they believe in capitalism.
