Does anyone know how to actually go about applying for a concealed weapons permit?  What paper work do you need?  Where do you go to apply?  Are there special hours to apply?

I doubt they changed the form yet. I think the new interpretation of the law is that the “reason” can no longer be a determining factor in whether the permit is  approved or not. I am guessing they can still technically ask a reason, but it doesn’t matter what you write as the reason. But idk.

I am sure they will come up with an updated form later. For now I would not be surprised one bit if every permit application is still denied until the state/county can figure out some way to add about 50 more layers of red tape.

Which those 50 layers of red tape will then have to be challenged in court and it will be years before the Hawaii government finally allows the concealed carry the way it should be allowed.

Just put "N/A" in the "reasons" section.

If you think HPD is going to magically conform to the Constitution just because the Supreme Court ruled against a law in New York, you haven't been watching our gun rights discussions for very long.

They won't change the form until the Hawaii Statutes are changed or if the Governor issues an order forcing  police departments to no longer deny applications based on the applicant's reasons.  Until that time, the Chief of Police still has the power to deny your application for no reason.

Ige is going to, at his earliest chance, instruct the Chief of Police to immediately grant CCW's to all applicants that qualify.

I can see the "places to keep" BS being repealed from HRS 134.  Either that, or they'll make it so those rules only apply to owners who don't have carry licenses.

I plan to get my passport photos.  No rush but I eventually will get around to applying for carry permit.

It's quite amusing.  I already have proven to the State of Hawaii and the City and County of Honolulu that I can legally own rifles and handguns.

And yet I have to submit 2 passport photos, fill out an application, and explain why I need to have a carry permit for self protection.

Go to HPD site and you’ll see the CCW form. It’ll also tell you to bring 2 passport photos, a letter explaining why you have special cause (currently ruked against but we’ll see), and they’re going to make you fill out another PTA form. Also bring your handgun registration form, your ID, and any accessory paperwork you have when filling out a PTA

Why another Permit to Acquire if you already have a handgun? Is it for the background check, which you already did for the pistol?

Sounds pretty damn pointless and only there as an inconvenience.

Yeah, I wish that too.  The SCOTUS ruling is such good news but I am not so optimistic as to how Hawaii's leaders will react to it.  And I'm sure the other 6 states with similar laws are not that thrilled either.

Hate to be a negative nellie but I think most of us here are bracing for some really ridiculous and restricting legislation in relation to carry permits.

When it comes to firearms I believe there are no level-headed legislators at the State Capitol.

If you are talking about Young V Hawaii.  I think is a case against the county of Hawaii.
It should be settled soon.  But I suspect the rest of the state will ignore it.  Us BI guys
are sending in our requests for permits.  There are no forms here as the cops never intended
to issue any concealed or open carry permits.  They ignored the law and never developed a
formal documented process to acquire such a permit.

Did any of the MSM in Hawaii meet with the new Honolulu Chief and ask him how he will respond to the new ruling by SCOTUS?

IMO, since Hawaii County is following state law (HRS 134), and the state would be made aware the county lost the case, the state would have to change how every county operates re: issuing CCW licenses.

If they don't do that and only change HI county, the state would be opening themselves up to major lawsuits by intentionally violating applicant's Constitutional rights.  I could see punitive damages and perhaps even officials being sued personally.
