Definitely opt for professional photos. No chances taking a risk of picture denial from HPD over saving ~$10. Walgreens has walk-in pictures and 1 hour or less pickup

According to this, CVS and Long's charge $16.99 for a pair of passport photos, plus you also get a "verification certificate" with a third print.

Quote
KODAK Biometric ID Photo System:  automatically verifies your photos meet all government requirements.
No need to worry about the latest regulations – our patented system updates as regulations change.
You’ll receive two prints, one with your ID photos and one with your verification certificate
https://www.cvs.com/photo/passport-photos

I'm sure that "biometric verification" service is worth the extra money!      :geekdanc:

For me, it's about convenience.  The closest Walgreen's I think is past the Wheeler Gate in Wahiawa.  I have two Long's stores in Mililani about the same distance from my house in opposite directions -- Town Center and Mauka.

With the cost of gas, making a special trip kind of kills any argument over price.

interesting that Hawaii is ranked 8th in least homicides per 100,000 population
5 of the 7 with less homicides than us has permitless open and concealed carry
more proof that strict guns laws don't work to decrease homicides, or permitless carry will not result in the wild wild west

Stats don't matter to anti gun people.  Because if they did, they would have nothing to be mad about.

I believe anti-gun people know this.  They will not acknowledge it.  Because it's all about power and control.  The 2nd Amendment reinforces the concept of "We the People".

A lot of our political leaders (you listening, joe?) want to bastardize the 2nd Amendment and don't believe in "We the People".  Well, not the way it was intended by the founding Fathers anyway.  More like We the People according to what they (those in power) say.

If the anti-gun nuts get their way, their new mantra will be:  We the tyrants.  You the sheep.
Sometimes you gotta know when to save your bullets.

Oh, I'm sure they would find something. . .

They should ban purple and pink guns. . . ;D

Let Honolulu get a thriving ghetto and underclass going and things will change.

Liberals refuse to accept it is a cultural thing.

There is a saying, the devils greatest trick is making you believe it doesn't exist.  Similar to anti gun nuts. The anti gun people in powers greatest trick is making the weak minded fight for them.

From a pure logic standpoint, all it takes is for someone to offer an example (state, city) with a high percentage of concealed/open carry going on -- with or without the need for a license or permit -- that also has a lower number of gun-related murders.  Justified self-defense shootings resulting in the death of the threat/s need to be excluded.

That, or one example of anywhere with stricter gun laws (CA, NY, Chicago) that has a higher rate of gun murders than HI.

Using a single variable to explain any observation as complex as crime is ignorant.  But, that's how they convince the uneducated.

There was a study that said there is NO CORRELATION between the number or type of gun laws in a state and the number of gun-related murders.  There are just too many examples that disprove the correlation to believe laws stop criminals with guns.

Look at NY.  They were arguing to the SCOTUS that their gun laws were needed for "safety," yet they just had a mass shooting at a market.  Kind of disproves their point, huh?

Politicians are adept at telling us "The law will solve X, Y, and Z".  There's no empirical data or surveys that PROVE such laws have any effect on X, Y, Z.  It's what they have to say to justify passing the law.  And they never seem to want to revisit the law and evaluate the impact it had on X, Y or Z -- because they rarely solve any real problems.  Most laws just impose more fines to raise revenue for the state/city/county.

I have a SW 29 with 8 3/8" Barrel.  Were you ever able to find a open carry holster for your Bisley?

I can't seem to find one for mine.  Best I could find was for a 6" Barrel.

I could do like the "Good, Bad, and the Ugly" character (was his name "Tuco"?) and just string a cord around the handle and hang the gun around my neck........

I never really looked for a holster for my Bisley.  but I bet Simply Rugged can make a custom one.  they are good about making custom holsters.  and I think he is a S&W guy

IIRC, the way Hawaii is set up for ccw right now, you don't need to qualify by doing a live fire test but just be able to legally own a firearm
I think NY and CA merely removed the part about needing a reason to carry and left the rest of their ccw terms the same.  so they don't have to qualify by live fire test.  correct me if I'm wrong
but Hawaii is Hawaii and the AG and the rest of the anti-gun politicians will make it hard on us to get a license.  it would not surprise me
but I hope they follow suit with NY and CA and just remove the part about needing a reason
I also hope everyone carrying will practice and be a good shot and know the laws about drawing and firing and know when it's justifiable to do so

You're right.  AT THIS MOMENT, the HRS 134 education requirements are the same a they are for a handgun permit.

We're just speculating about (1) will the state use more rigid training and testing requirements for a CC License, and (2) if Congress tries to pass national reciprocity, what will the training look like knowing that some states require more of that than others.

With the high cost of ammo, you want to make every shot count.

Thanks for the info, Stang!

sure, anytime
there might be more that he makes for the 29/629 with the long barrel, I just didn't look any further than those 3 holsters.  but I remember he is a S&W guy and makes a few holsters for the N frame
If and when we do get ccw here, I will order a holster from him for my N frame 627, snubnose 8 shot 357 :shaka:
I already have a couple holsters from him.  good stuff

Never seen this.
I was always told to write a letter directly to the police chief.
for concealed carry.
For employment and open carry I was aware of this for
businesses.

Us Hawaii county guys should give it a try.
Thanks!

So has anyone successfully submitted an application?  Do they give you a receipt and any additional info?  Do you make additional applications for additional pistols (the application only allows for one)?
