Black gun owners and Hawaii Gun Bias
« on: October 27, 2012, 07:49:12 AM »
I read this article about the alienation of African American gun owners and their families bias toward them.  It reminds me of the similar situation that we have here in Hawaii.  Many here still have that 'plantation mentality' where many still feel like they do not have a say in the things of governance. Especially when it comes to guns and rights.

Quote
When he shared some of the things he learned about gun control with his brother-in-law and it started a big family fight.  He was called a sell-out, an Uncle Tom, and blamed for the deaths of the drug dealers across town.  They asked if he had joined the racist NRA.  Phil was in shock at the responses.  The more he talked about what he had learned the more alienated he became.

It is a lot like Stockholm syndrome.  That is when a victim begins to express empathy toward their oppressor, sometimes to the point of defending them.

Thoughts?   Sound similar?

Interesting article... I remember talking to Chuck about how people here dont know there 2A rights...how a lot of people here gasp when they hear that youre a registered gun owner.... A lot of people by watching the media still cant believe you can own an AK47 or AKM to be correct.... The last gun show demonstrated how people are slowly getting use to the whole gun ownership "thing"..... It was awesome how whole families and couples showed up.....

Is it a bad thing to be responsible for the deaths of drug dealers across town?  Sounds like that should be a compliment.

I've met a quite a few people that think gun owners are crazy or psycho. When I was going through Army training our TAC called me a psycho because I brought my service rifle to compete in highpower matches. Sometimes I feel ashamed to mention gun ownership in the Army...ironic isn't it? I don't know where our beloved country is going. I remember carrying toy guns around the neighborhood without people freaking out. We would have mock battles and I was a squad leader etc.

Yup! I remember running in the brush up at Moanaloa Hillside with my toy (no orange painted muzzle) Uzi... I remember duct taping my 2 toy rifles together like Ripley and running around our neighborhood apartment parking lot like normal

If you dissolve your enemies in acid, technically that's turning your problems into a solution.

Come to think of it, I don't own any white guns...
Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.
