Premature, but what gun would you carry if HI allows CCW/Open carry (Read 71068 times)

I carry the VP9 in Vegas and since it's only a week, it's fine.  But for an EDC, I would want something smaller.

Looking at a G43X or Shield Plus due to the size and being able to carry 10rds.

I have a Smith and Wesson M&P9C that I would carry until I get to know what I want. I want to buy once cry once.  The reason why I'm not a fan of the 9C is because without the extended mag, the pinky hangs off. Not too much of an issue, but reloading takes a bigger break in the grip. So when you eject the mag, now the pinky hanging is noticable.  Plus with the mag blocked, it cannot  hold 10rds, but only 9 because the 10th round doesn't allow the mag to fit into a closed slide. This is the case for all 5 factory 10rd mags that I got from S&W.

Not a fan of the SIG 365 as the angle I don't like and the mush trigger.

Fyi, 15rnd Shield mags for the Glock 43x/48 are hit and miss.  Some work.  Some have severe jamming issues.

In before "I own no firearms or loading supplies."

As usual, the answer is "It depends."

I'd carry my Glock 26 in most situations.  My S&W 9mm Shield is also a nice option, even if it holds fewer rounds.

At some point, when I have the opportunity to compare the different Sig P365 models, I'll likely buy one of those.

My Ruger SP101 5-shot .357 Mag, probably in an ankle holster, backpack or fanny pack as a backup.  I'll probably rotate it into primary carry, depending on the situation.

If traveling where I can wear a jacket or vest, I'd prefer a full size, like my Sig P226 or G17.  I sold my P320, but I plan to replace it with an upgraded model eventually, possibly with an RDS.

I have a G30 .45ACP, so that's on the list of options, too.

It it's a SHTF scenario, then "All of the above."   :geekdanc:

CCW--probably a LW pocket rocket of some sort (airweight J frame, Beretta 21, Keltec .32 comes to mind)--compatible with t shirt & shorts EDW.

Open carry??? probably wouldn't

My Wisconsin carry guns are either a Bersa Thunder 380 CC or a Kahr P380.  Since we'll likely have to pick one it'd be the Bersa since it's easier to shoot even though it's larger and heavier and thus less pleasant to carry.

G19 - Open carry or CC
Hellcat - OC or CC
P365 - OC or CC
Ruger LCR 38sp - CC
Colt Cobra 38sp - OC or CC
Ruger GP100 357mag - OC
S&W 627 PC 357mag 8 rounds - OC

if we have to choose 1, then I would choose either the G19 or Hellcat.
either one can co-witness iron sights with the RDS.  I like the Holosun optic on the Glock better than the Hex Wasp on the Hellcat, but I like the night sights on the Hellcat better than the Trijicon night sights on the Glock.
Glock feels better shooting, but the Hellcat is smaller and feels better carrying.  I can reload mags better in the Glock bc its bigger, easier to eject mags in the Glock
overall I like the Glock better, but the Hellcat is smaller but still shoots pretty good.  I prefer the Hellcat over the Sig P365.  trigger feels more tactile and crisper and can eject the mag better in the Hellcat vs the Sig, I don't have to adjust my grip bc the mag release sticks out a little more on the Hellcat and my pinky doesn't get in the way like it does on the Sig.  but I still like the Sig bc has the manual safety and I feel better with pocket carry this way
tough decision.  nice to have good options to choose from

Shouldn’t this be a Glock 21 since that’s chambered in .45?

No one is coming, it’s up to us.

Legislation should never be about depriving law abiding citizens of something, but rather taking those things away from criminals.

The problem is that the G.K. Young vs. HI case will be sent to a lower court, and the state will try to craft new arguments. At the same time, they may make a CCW permit specific to a single registered weapon that you use for the "qualification" test. The Supreme Court eventually will overrule this obstructionist requirement. The outcome will be: only a single test is required. Whether the state will then force periodic license renewal tests is unknown. Thus, my first CCW gun choice will be a .22LR semi-automatic pistol. This is the easiest choice for most distance/accuracy tests.

At the other end of the spectrum, how about a 500 Magnum? This would need a special chest holster, but would scare the heck out of any perp who would threaten your life.

We have 25 states (and counting) with permit-less carry of firearms.  No permit/license application process, no training classes, and no tests.

That's half the states for those not keeping track!    :D

The trend has been for states to adopt permit-less or Constitutional carry, not to make getting permission to carry more inconvenient.

The generally accepted premise is, if you can legally own a firearm, you should not be prohibited from carrying it in public.  Personal responsibility keeps the majority of gun owners safe and proficient -- much more than a day of classroom training and a 30 rd live fire test ever will.

Just saying....

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

I've narrowed it down pending actually shooting the guns.

1) S&W Shield Plus
2) G43X
3) SIG P365X

This will be for my AIWB for work when I wear a polo shirt tucked into slacks. Tier1 Concealed makes a good holster with ULTI clips which allow the shirt tucking. Because of this reason, the gun has to be thin. So the CR920 is out.  For un-tucked aloha shirt and slacks, it will be anything I want, even the VP9 as I will carry at the 4 o'clock IWB location.

Reason why the 365X is back in the running is the size/thinness. Since this will be holstered 99.9999% of the time, size is a factor due to the above.

P365X

Pros:
Tacticool
Pinky doesnt hang off grip
Good sights

Cons
Price (most expensive of the 3)
No bladed trigger
Trigger might be mush if it's like the P365

G43X

Pros
Pinky doesnt hang off
Price
Trigger safety

Cons
Trigger is hit or miss
Sights suck

Shield Plus

Pros:
Price
Trigger is nice
Trigger safety

Cons:
Pinky might hang off without extended mag
Not tacticool

But in the end, it might be what's available at the time. I have a M&P 9C which is like a thicker Shield, which I can make due with until I get what I want. This is Mrs. CMO's gun though that she first bought. It has an Apex trigger.

Don't overthink it.
Pick something reliable and practice a lot with it
Don't be switching around. You have to develop muscle memory.

Once I choose, I'm gonna stick with what I buy and learn to shoot it. So I really think it might come down to what I can get my hands on first.GB has all models for sale at reasonable price. But I wanna support LGS first. Give them first draft choice.

recently got the P365 and Hellcat
I like the Hellcat better so far.  although the P365 isn't bad at all
trigger is crisper with more tactile reset on the Hellcat
front sight is a bigger and brighter night sight on the Hellcat.  more visible in daylight too.  I like the U shape rear sight, although the rear sight is not a night sight but as long as the front is that is good enough in my book
I can eject the mag easier on the Hellcat whereas the P365 I have to adjust my grip so my pinky gets off the mag so it drops free.  the Hellcat I don't have to adjust my grip nearly as much to drop the mag free
other than that, they are pretty much very similar

my top 3:  G19, Hellcat, P365
G19 good for all around carry day or night.  Hellcat is smaller than the G19, lighter, better for all day carry but no light but can add a light if I want to. SigP365 has no light or optic but I don't think that matters too much, can add a light if I want.  but I like how the Hellcat feels and shoots better than the P365, mostly bc of the trigger and mag release.  the P365 I could use for HD gun and that would work very well, although for a carry gun it would work well too.
I wish we could choose more than 1 gun to carry.  but these are my top 3 right now (I can change each holster from paddle to belt loop easily or any G code or Tek Lok attachment)

If they allow CCW then my P365.

Also was thinking of my Walther P22.

But if they only allow open carry I'm still on the fence.  (As far as if I would carry a firearm.)
