NEW YORK CITY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT INTRODUCES NUCLEAR PREPAREDNESS PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT (PSA)

For Immediate Release

July 11, 2022 — New York City Emergency Management Department today launched a new public service announcement (PSA) that focuses on nuclear preparedness. While the likelihood of a nuclear weapon incident occurring in/near New York City is very low, it is important New Yorkers know the steps to stay safe. The new PSA encourages New Yorkers to take key, simple steps in the event of such an incident.

"New York City Emergency Management has a multitude of free resources for New Yorkers to prepare for emergencies, including no-notice events," said New York City Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol. "As the threat landscape continues to evolve, it is important that New Yorkers know we are preparing for any imminent threats and are providing them with the resources they need to stay safe and informed."

The PSA outlines three key steps New Yorkers should take:

Get inside.
Stay inside.
Stay tuned.

NYC Emergency Management works with several local, state, and federal agencies to organize emergency response. In partnership with NYPD, FDNY, NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, MTA, and FEMA, the agency hosts the PlanNowNYC website, which focuses on preparing for terrorist attacks and other no-notice events, including nuclear events, as well as the steps to take if such an event occurs.

The City also uses several forms of media to alert the public in an emergency, including Notify NYC, the City of New York's free, official emergency communications program. New Yorkers are encouraged to sign up for these free emergency alerts in their preferred language and format by visiting the website at NYC.gov/notifynyc or by calling 311.

The Trade Center was targeted in 1993 and in 2001 because of it's symbolism as the financial center of the US.

They also targeted the Pentagon and DC (assuming that's true before the plane crashed in VA) for their symbolism as well.

New York will always be a symbolic place to the world for US Capitalism and businesses.  Who lives there was irrelevant.  Lots of Middle Easterners and other foreign-born immigrants and children of immigrants died on 9-11.

I may seem mean to say this but ainokea.

All you Neueww Yawkers who want to have a total ban on guns, if a nuke ever hits your messed up city, you are gonna wish you had one.  Provided you survive the blast, of course.

Meh 🫤 honestly, I don’t think it really matters how many guns you have or don’t have in a nuclear blast. If New York is the actual target with modern day nukes, pretty sure everyone even close to the city will be insta-killed.

If the "bomb drops" on NYC, who would you use a gun against?

The only logical answer would be other survivors trying to take whatever they can to survive -- same thing you will likely be doing.

I'm certain there won't be any enemy ground forces for you to shoot at.

Or the fellow across the hallway with 4 young kids and a pregnant wife.

You'll be surprised how things change when the SHTF.  Desperation during desperate times.

Seems pretty narcissistic to me.
Of what value is it to our enemies to destroy one of the most anti-American cities in the USA?
They may wipe out DC, but the rest of the targets will be military first.
Our enemies know we can do just fine without our capitol cities.
They are worse than what the enemy bombs can do.
Cap that all off that 70% of our Nuke deterrence, exists where they don't even know where they are.
Russians and I expect China, North Korea and some Moslem countries will cease to exist.
just on the first  reaction.
Then we reload.
