What's with the EO Tech EXPS/XPS
« on: July 14, 2022, 12:15:55 PM »
So I noticed in the HRA SB that there were lots of guys running this type of RDS on their AR's. IDK which models they were, but you get where I'm going with this.  Is there something I'm missing?

Like when I was going thru holsters for the VP9, it took me like 5 holsters to realize Safariland is king. And many friends who run Safariland  told me this, but I didn't listen. We call this a clue.  For my M45, I went straight with Safariland.

So I've been running my SIG Romeo5 for 6 years now and have no issues.  If this were a duty rifle, then I might change to something more bulkier and sturdier.  But this is a safe queen.

Fan boys?

Not too long ago, EOTECH ran a buy-back program because the parallax on their holographic sights was more noticeable than other brands.  They were offering 100% refunds including shipping and tax plus paying for the return shipping.

I would assume the newer versions have corrected the problem.  They also had a "thermal drift" where a zeroed sight would lose zero if the temp is hotter or colder than when it was zeroed.

Anyway, if you do decide to take the leap and get one, make sure the manufacture date is post-problem-period.  What that date is, I'd have to research.  I'm sure you can find it, too.

The military issues EOTECH, and as such it's what many current and former military will be running on their ARs.  Go with what you know.

I like my AimPoint PROs.  It's cheaper, and does more than I will ever need probably.  Over 3 year battery life if you leave it on low intensity setting.

I have both EXPS and a few Aimpoints.  Believe you know my preference.  We can chat next time I see you.  I can share my perspective from personal side-by-side use/comparison.

One of the bigger known optic brands used by MIL/LE so they have the reputation.

Like said above, there were known issues with thermal drift. Living in Hawaii, we probably wont be affected, but I've seen a few where the reflector glass popped off inside the housing.

Maybe I have weird luck, but I've had no issues with the ones I currently own.

As long as you get their new logo, it will be post buy back.

It's holographic vs l.e.d..

Personally ive had a 512, exps 2-2. T1, h1, h2, holosun 515gt.

All have is ups and downs. Even aimpoints and holosun have thermal drift. Eotech claimed it had ABSOLUTE zero thermal drift and on a government contract they found that to be false. I think it was up to 2 or 3 inches at 100 yards. So they got sued. But even after all that crap, the government bought thousands more units to supply the armed forces. I think it was just an easy and cheaper way to upgrade all their old crap. I did the buy back program. At night, eotech was king to me. I love the projected reticle. But during the day I couldnt see shit. It would washout even on semi cloudy days. If I used a light on my ar15 it would washout as well. Especially with light splashback. The battery life was crap compared to l.e.d. but with a projected reticle it was a trade off.

I do wanna try their new green reticle though. Idk if it'll wash out with my eyes in the sun and with a weaponlight.

In the end , its all preference. Expss comes factory with a qd mount while xps has a torx or hex head screw. The 2, 2-2, 3-0 etc refers to what reticle it has. And iirc the 3 series are NV.  And green reticles are only offered in the 3 series.

Only exps and xps have side loaded batreries because the 5xx series have problems where overtime the connections will fail due to recoil. Cause the batteries are inline of recoil.
