If this is true, Trump has lost his shit.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-dc-speech-calls-death-202802828.html

“ The penalties should be very, very severe. If you look at countries throughout the world, the ones that don’t have a drug problem are ones that institute a very quick trial death penalty sentence for drug dealers,” Trump said at the America First Policy Institute.

“It sounds horrible, doesn’t it? But you know what? That’s the ones that don’t have any problem. It doesn’t take 15 years in court. It goes quickly, and you absolutely — you execute a drug dealer, and you’ll save 500 lives,” Trump continued.

“It’s terrible to say, but you take a look at every country in this world that doesn’t have a problem with drugs, they have a very strong death penalty for people that sell drugs,” he said.

Trump’s comments calling for a crackdown on drug dealers, which included praise for quick trials in other countries, came as part of a broader vision for harshly cracking down on crime.

The former president painted a picture of a bleak and dystopian country, highlighting instances of civilians being attacked in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and elsewhere.

He called for police squad cars to be parked on every corner.

Trump suggested moving encampments of homeless people out of major cities and to “large parcels of inexpensive land at the outer reaches of the city” and creating tents with medical professionals.

Trump called for passing laws to give police more authority and strengthen qualified immunity so law enforcement does not fear repercussions.

He called for a “no-holds-barred national campaign to dismantle gangs and organized street crime in America.”

The former president called for efforts to defeat violence “and be tough and be nasty and be mean if we have to.”

“We’re living in such a different country for one primary reason: There is no longer respect for the law, and there certainly is no order. Our country is now a cesspool of crime,” Trump said.

I have a coworker who has family in Duval (Philipines).  This is 1 city where the former president did his no rights drug enforcement. Their drug problem dropped over night and almost everyone supported this. Because nothing was being done about their drug problem.  I'm going to assume that some innocent people were harmed since there were no courts. Imagine Judge Dredd style.

The only reason we have a drug problem is because they allow it. It's hard to believe that the US with all our might cannot stop drugs from coming in and spreading. #tinfoil

You almost got it.  The problem isn't we aren't using our might, but rather we have a society and system of government that places individual rights over justice.  We turn criminals loose because the Cops didn't read them their rights, failed to follow rules of evidence, or a million other procedural errors.  Even if the suspect is nailed dead to rights on video, that video may be inadmissible due to the way it was recorded or obtained.

When you live in a free society with certain civil rights, its not hard for people to find ways to abuse and make use of those rights and avoid consequences for breaking laws.

Now we have DAs in big cities letting perps walk with no bail hours after arrest, free to commit more crimes.

I don't see this as a country unwilling or unable to exercise its might.  We have a system that bends over backwards to afford the same civil rights to a petty thief as it does to a mass murderer.  Most times that system -- which is made up of people -- isn't perfect.

We view addiction as a disease, not  crime.  That addiction equates to demand, one which a supplier is happy to service.  We enable addiction through needle exchanges and legal prescription drugs in mass quantities.  Is it any wonder the makers and movers of illegal drugs target the US "market?"

It's been proven that you can arrest and sentence one drug dealer, and another will willingly and quickly take his place.  The problem doesn't stop, only the faces change.

We tried the "3 strikes" system, which only succeeded in filling our prisons with low-level dealers and users who got busted 3 times.  If going to prison isn't a deterrence for people desperate to make money, what would be?

the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself.
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man.

IMO, if we can fund wars, we can do the following:

1) Destroy the cartels with use of our military or gov agencies by force.  Treat it like a war.
2) Build more prisons to keep dealers behind bars. We have the $, but rather waste it on other stuff. See above with regard to funding wars
3) Have more officers to make drug arrest. I don't see DEA knocking on known drug dealer homes or even just standing outside of a known drug house/area. People not gonna buy with cops standing 10 feet from them. Yet other gov agencies love to knock on peoples doors to "ask" for stuff (no warrant).
4) Same with more resources to tackle incoming drugs. Boarder, harbors, airlines, etc...
5) More $ for drug specific courts, again refer to the above about funding other stuff.

During COVID, we gave the Smithsonian like $100 million. NASA also got a big chunk. So there is money, it's just not allocated due to corruption.  We lost the war on drugs, and need to step up the game.

Do we have a drug problem in the U.S. because our politicians are on the take?  LE too probably.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised they themselves are addicted to drugs.

Drug dealers allow 50 million dollar drug busts as a smoke screen to let the 1 billion dollar shipments through.

Conspiracy to distribute drugs.

Just thought about that.

Edit:

This is in no way a threat. Just commenting on Trumps comments noted above.

You have to wonder why Democrats can't raise kids.
I've raised mine and then some.

So, if an authoritarian government suspends constitutional rights to due process and execute suspected drug dealers on sight, what other constitutional rights will be trampled?  Free speech? The right to bear arms?

Executing suspected criminals is not even a slippery slope.  It is stepping off the cliff.

Good thing no one here is asking for street executions like how the PI did.

They have spent billions over the years trying. We have a drug problem because enough Americans want drugs and if there is enough demand then suppliers will find a way.

Fortunately (or unfortunately) Duerte's plan wouldn't work in America... more accurately it wouldn't be legal by any stretch.

And how much actually went into the effort? It's all for show.  The poppies grow in big fields, not like in some dudes attic.  So if the Mexican gov doesn't want to help, then they're the problem and shall be treated as an act of war or like. I mean we invaded Iraq for much less (WMD's).  So it's corruption.  If the US can airstrike buildings in Iraq, we can airstrike drug fields with much less collateral damage.

The war on drugs is a jobs program for Democrats.  Pure and simple.
Most normal people don't want to be the kind of drug cops we have in the USA today.

That is a pretty antagonistic statement on my part.

Drugs are a personal choice.  If you abuse a thing it may kill you.
My opposition to the drug laws is simple.  Government has no business
forcing you into behaviors you choose to exercise, If and only if you
aren't harming anybody else but yourself.
I lost a beloved cousin after her Heroin based lifestyle caught up with her.
Drugs did not kill her, her lifestyle did.
And all your cops, lawyers, Judges, and even I could not save her.
From my point of view all that happened was cops, lawyers, and judges
got richer at her expense.
Heroin is dirt cheap. Who got all her money?
Cops, Lawyers, Judges, and illicit ripoff drug Dealers.
Fuck them all.
 :grrr:
The only reason we have drug laws is to make Democrats rich and try to keep
some of their potential voters alive.

What if the gov instead made the drugs?  This would def put the cartels and street dealers out of business. And be profitable and safer than some dude making stuff in his kitchen.  When NV legalized MJ, I asked my friend who smokes what about his dealer?  She said he went on to deal coke instead. Cause MJ was safer and better quality when sold at a store.
