Mufi Hanneman was there. I talked with him about almost 1 million people on this island and one service window.

Basically he didn't care even though he agreed with me.

Big difference between politicians and concerned public servants.

I asked the same thing, then thought I better change it before the Mufia sees it!   :shake:

12-15 ahead of me unknown quantity in da room. No officers asking why folks in line are there or expediting anything. I knew I should have came this morning. I'll prolly have to go feed the meter before I get to the window

Addition: Friday 1-15-16 in at 1335 out at 1500, registering one rifle.
I had to feed the meter, officer Chu expedited me right when I made it to the door.

Report for Friday, 15 January 2016

Day:  F     <== M | T | W | TH | F
Time in:  Arrived at 0600, in at 0745
Time out:  0830
People in line upon Arrival;: 4 in front, 12 behind
People in line upon Departure:  15+
Permit Applications Submitted:  0
Permits Picked Up: 0
Local Firearms Registered: 2
Out of State Firearms Registered: 0

Arrived at 0600 to beat the line.

Registration was a lot faster with the new system, but the process started to get backed up when it came for me to sign; waited an additional 20 minutes compared to the guys in front of me. Not sure if this was because of a system slow down, but it got pretty irritating.

Called to side door by Officer Chu, who expedited my signatures there.

Felt real bad for the people behind me, because that line got crazy.

Where do you park if you're there over 2 hours?

I parked in the police garage and left the line to add more funds to the parking meter then went back to line.

About as good a job as could be done with that many people. Officers came out periodically to address permit pick-ups. Signed on the new E-signature system, seems to speed up the process a bit.

I usually park in the Public Parking across Alapai from the station. Max: 3 hours, $1.50/hr, but free if parking before 8am and after 3pm.

Thanks for the updates! Your posts are very helpful to me as I am trying to figure out the best times to go. Like most of us, I dont have all day to stand in line. Keep it up.

Ive never registered a handgun in Honolulu before, always in Hilo where its very easy. When going to get my permit to acquire, is it helpful if I fill out the forms (found on HPDs website) beforehand instead of at the station? Ive heard that HPD wants you to complete the forms at the station so theres no mistakes. Also, when bringing the firearm back to get it registered, can I use my soft-sided case or do they require a hard case?

Welcome to the forum Humilio  :shaka: , soft cases are fine. I have had no problem with forms filled out ahead of time and those that I helped fill out down loaded forms have had no problem at HPD. There are several who have had to rewrite their forms at HPD. Since they have publicized the online forms now maybe there won't be a problem. Just make sure you read the instruction and initial where required and not just check the boxes.

Welcome! It is definitely helpful to pre-fill the online forms, even if it's just as a reminder in case they give you the physical forms to fill out. As for casing, I literally saw somebody today registering a handgun in a small cardboard box...any case is fine

GlockNewb, Dogman: thanks for responding. I have yet another question, my brother who lives in Hilo wants to transfer ownership of two of his handguns to me. What do I do after I obtain my permits to acquire? Do I mail them to him to sign and then he mails it back to me within the 10 days? Then I go to HPD with the signed permits and the two handguns to get them registered under my name within 2 days of receiving the handguns? Also, do you know what or if he needs to do anything at the Hilo PD to "release" the ownership to me?

I'm sure you can mail the permits to acquire, but its a no-go on mailing the pistols.

Your brother would either need to transfer and ship the pistols to a honolulu based ffl, or you will need to fly to hilo to receive the firearms. I think it would be cheaper on both your ends if he just shipped it to a honolulu ffl, unless you can get a round trip ticket to hilo under $150.

Remember: you have (10) days from the day the permit is authorized to obtain the firearms, and (2) days to register upon receiving the firearms
