Today, september 8th 2023. went to renew my long gun. permit to acquires are back on the normal left hand side so i guess the ltc backlog is done? Got there around 2pm, parking lot was full so I was a little worried, but there was only one person in front of me in line and one person already inside. waited in line about 25 mins and was in and out of the door in about 5 minutes. the line had grown since i got there though, about 4-5 people in line when I left. guy came running out after me calling my name after I got about 10 yards from the doors, he wanted me to sign the email form even though I am going to pickup in person. said he was going to void the rest of the form and write no email, seemed kinda strange but whatever works for them.

I heard at a LGS that hpd is not putting out forms on the counter anymore--you have to go up to the window to get the forms and fill it out then and there (thus slowing down the process even more).  Can anyone verify this, or is it old news/no longer applicable?

PTAs on the left hand side is news to me but its been a while since I last went down there (lol--like a couple weeks, maybe)

I went today about noon to get my long gun PTA. I was 2nd in line in the parking lot and there were 3 people in the lot behind me.  In the permit line there were 2 people in the room already and 1 in front of me.  I was there about 20 minutes in line and maybe 5 minutes in the room.  When I got in the room there was only 1 person working the counter and it felt like he was rushing.  I had pre-filled my forms from online but this was my first time in with the new long question form and having the option to email my permit.  I filled out the form with my email address and password but the guy didn't mention I would also need my permit number to fill out the forms online to have my permit emailed.

Anyone know if I can still pick up my permit in person during the normal period pick up period?  Or can I call in and get the permit number on Monday to fill out the online form?  By the time I got to try filling out the form online it was too late to call and ask today.

There were 3 trays of forms on the table in the middle of the room.  The medical forms for Kaiser and another provider (I forget which one) were on the right side of the counter under the camera.

Did you get a picture of the email form? The permit numbers should be at the top.

I didn't get the opportunity to take a pic of the email form.  As soon as I filled out the email form he took it back and moved me over to take a picture and said I was done.

If you took a photo of the carbon triplicate form, the permit number is in the upper right hand corner.

Just call. They can give you your permit number over the phone.

Please clarify, for LTC holders, there is no waiting the 10-days for a Long Gun permit?  I had read this was the case for Handgun permits but not Long Gun permits.

The statute makes no distinction between pistol and long gun permits when listing exceptions:

Quote
The permit application form shall be signed by the applicant and by the issuing authority.
One copy of the permit shall be retained by the issuing authority as a permanent official
record.
Except for sales to dealers licensed under section 134-31, or dealers licensed by the
United States Department of Justice, or law enforcement officers, or where a license is
granted under section 134-9,
or where any firearm is registered pursuant to section
134-3(a), no permit shall be issued to an applicant earlier than fourteen calendar days after
the date of the application; provided that a permit shall be issued or the application denied
before the twentieth day from the date of application.
https://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/Vol03_Ch0121-0200D/HRS0134/HRS_0134-0002.htm

The only distinction is in the same section that says handgun permits expire 10 days after issue,
and rifle/shotgun permits expire 1 year after date of issue.

When you renew HPD will stamp it and sign it with the days date and give it back to you, at the top they write CCW Waived.

No parking today.  Been waiting downstairs in the parking garage for 45 mins.  No street parking anymore either.

When i ca't find a spot next to the police station, I drive to the next parking lot past the next intersection.  Usually plenty.

Of course, on rainy days like today, it's not a fun walk.

Got a friend 5 hrs in line. Finished at 8:30pm. He did notice the cops working faster after 4:30. Its like they want to go home.

Ive had this happen to me. Hpd closed the door at 2:40 with 5 people inside. All 5 done by 3pm. Versus 1 every 20 mins. My stuff was done in 5 mins.

The Malasadas are all gone after 1:30.  Not as many snack breaks.

Went to register a rifle I got through a private sale today. Parked on Beretania close to Ward, a little after 4 PM, put an hour on the meter. Had 46 minutes left when I got back.
